With all the bells and whistles of E3 over, what are your thoughts?
I watched most of the big pressers live (for the glory of CoN) and saw most of what I missed after the fact. Here's my evaluation of the three console makers; I may add more later on. Nintendo. I was pretty darn underwhelmed by Nintendo this year. In part, the "digital event" just didn't seem.... exciting. At Sony and Microsoft, there were at least sounds and lights and audiences that helped build up an atmosphere, but Nintendo just seemed to skip from one 30-second bit to the next (whether game trailer or odd puppet show). Also, I know they've got NX in the pipes and all, but I was surprised to see that they're leaving the WiiU for dead so early. Three titles were announced for the console, in total: one of those was Mario Tennis and one was an Animal Crossing Mario Party type game. So there was only one real title announced, Star Fox Zero, and that has been getting lukewarm response across the internet. Even if NX is out for the first quarter of 2017, man, there are gonna be some slow times ahead. Microsoft. Halo looked good, though that isn't particularly news. Backwards compatibility is pretty huge, and got a good amount of cheers as a result. The new Gears game seemed.... kind of dated to me, like a Resistance: Fall of Man game. Recore seems to have potential, and the handfull of indie games the showed did the trick. When I first saw the HoloLens demo of Minecraft, I near shat myself like just about everyone else in the room (it was easily the strongest response the crowd gave during that presser), but several news stories I've seen since then have led me to second-guess its significance. Sony. Obvious news first, FFVII announcement is crazy amazing. Even without that bias, The Last Guardian finally emerging from the shadows of development is also really exciting (and more than a little emotional to see introduced after all they've been through). After its brief tech snaffu, Uncharted 4 looked good, though that isn't particularly news. Horizon: Zero Dawn looked lovely and intriguing, though I have no idea what to expect of it. I'm not sure Sony had a counter to Microsoft's tech news, though. I think Microsoft and Sony both put on strong shows for a non-console year, but my greater interest in the titles Sony showed leads me to lean in that direction. -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up!
