I've got just one simple question about the Rippler bug. Can you give the Interceptor status to somebody other then Shadow permanently using Rippler? I think it would be neat to give it to Relm, or maybe Strago just for fun but don't want to kill the dog. I'm just wondering.

I'm by no means any authority on the subject, but as far as I can tell, giving Interceptor to another character permanently isn't possible. I don't know the logistics of it, but I'm sure Djibriel or someone does. I'd assume Rippler was always intended to be a move that lasted for the battle only, comparable to the 'Stop' status effect. That's just me speculating.

Actually rippler changes the interceptor status permanently, as far as I recall. Having a dark force cast rippler on shadow and then having strago cast rippler on the dark force will give strago the interceptor status permanently, so long as nothing casts rippler on him.

Yeah, Rippler is permanent. How could you lose Interceptor if it wasn't?

Anyway, I was concerned for a moment because there are alot of Remove statuses $08, $40 event commands in the code, but a little bug hunting revealed that the remove status code has the nibbles reversed (if you check mnrogar's forum, I've found a bug that proves this point), so the code isn't referencing MagiTek and Interceptor like I thought, it's referencing Wounded and Life 3. I guess at one point Life 3 was supposed to last between battles. Oh well. huh.gif

Long story short, Ripplering Interceptor to another character is permanent. Don't worry about what I said above; it's just part of what I did to make myself absolutely sure about this.

Thanks everybody for the help. Now all I need to do is get back into the WoR so I can find some Reach Frogs. Then I can have lots of fun trading Interceptor around. Maybe I should make an Umaro Mog Terra Gau and/or Gogo party . . .

I wonder if the bug carries over to the PS or was fixed. Hmmm...

If it isn't in the Version specific section, it probably hasn't been removed from any version.

Of course, I can test it out, but only on Greatest Hits, and for original Anthology/Collection/FF6 European, that guarantees nothing. :\

Does that also mean that it's possible to lose Shadow's faithful companion forever if rippler isn't done before the battle is over?

In short the answer is yes Racthoh, that much is Documented in Master Zed's White Sheet. Don't worry though, not many enemies can cast Rippler so you can just avoid those battles. In other words, if you don't want a dead dog, just don't bring Interceptor to a fight where Rippler can be cast by anybody. Except maybe Strago that is. Unless you want Interceptor to belong to Umaro or something happy.gif .

Well, thanks for the info.

I can imagine that must've been rather frustrating for the first person to discover that they lost Interceptor forever!

Let me add this to the discussion:

It appears that some events clear the Interceptor status... Granted, I think they are all WOB events at points where you don't have Shadow. However, the point is that swapping the status to someone else *could* still cause it to be lost, because other characters have no reason for the event to preserve that bit.

Another tidbit of trivia: It is the event code that gives Shadow the Interceptor stauts in the first place.
