I would have CoNCAA running already but for one thing: Yahoo has started asking for players' mobile numbers just to sign up, and their terms imply that they will send you SMS messages if you give them the number. They also send you a validation code so you can't give them a fake, it appears. So, there's a question before us: are you willing to give them your number, or would you be more interested in setting up an ESPN account?

I already have an ESPN account, so I'm good. And like most places, you can sign up for an account using Facebook, Twitter, or Google, so you could create one quickly. That said, my vote is for ESPN and that's what I'll do in a few days unless you folks want to stick with Yahoo like we have every year for the last dozen or so.

Selection Sunday is the 16th so we'll want to have the bracket set up in plenty of time to get people enrolled and their picks made.

I say it every year, CoNCAA is fun for people who care about sports, and it's fun for people who like to hang out at CoN. If you're either of those, you should sign up and witness the Madness (don't sue!). More details in previous threads:

Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? Or perhaps buying a really good looking shirt?

My vote is for Yahoo solely based off familiarity unless I hear an argument to change. Is there any particular benefit to having it on ESPN rather than Yahoo?

For me, not risking getting spam texts. I don't know if they actually will text me or not, to be perfectly honest, and I don't want that to make people not want to play. However, I kind of wonder, do they force you through that flow if you sign up for Yahoo using another social network? Being that it's Yahoo, I bet they still do.

It's Maaaaaaaaaaaaarch

I'd be sad to move away from Yahoo after all these years, but if there is a terribly negative opinion of the signup processes then I guess I can understand.

It's hard to keep track of all the pools I dip into year to year, but for some reason I have nagging sense that I wasn't a fan of ESPN's interface last time around. But any complaints would probably be minor on that end.

Probably ESPN because these insecurity measures are just getting counterproductive.

Seriously, why is it they bang on for years about not giving out personal information, then turn around and demand, er, personal information? Usually right after they've proven they hold onto confidential information as well as a man with no hands holds onto an eel coated in surgical gel?

Oh well, basketballs don't hold grudges.

ESPN, Yahoo's thing LITERALLY tells you that you are signing up for marketing texts and gives you no opt-out. They're a joke.

I've played ESPN's game for a few years, by the way - the money pool I've been in for the last five years uses them and the functionality is almost identical. I did verify that you can create an ESPN account from Facebook, but it looks like not from Twitter or Google - my mistake on that.

I agree that it is irritating to have to have yet another account, but I think that being able to do it from FB is probably a pretty good tradeoff.

Sounds like the ESPN one should be the one for this year. I'm up for another one of my usual poor showings!
