How do you pronounce "Narshe?"

I always said "narsh", ie one syllable, pronounced like "marsh."

I would like to say Narsh-uh like Schalke but I've always just said Narshy.

We always ended up saying Narsh-ay, couldn't tell you why. The interesting part ended up being the fact that we use the french pronunciation of Celes' name which ended up being 'Cel-ay', I've confirmed this with a French-Canadian however so I can't vouch for any other form of the language. I like both forms of the name, though, so it never really bothered me. : 3

Based on what of know about Japanese, I think it is highly unlikely that it is pronounced "Narsh"; That is actually pretty hard to pronounce in Japanese. It is probably "Narsheh", although my brother and I always said "Narshee" for some odd reason. In the end, though, I say it is just a game and you can pronounce it however you want.

Well it's "Narushe" in Japan, but I don't know if that makes a difference.

I assume that is "Narlushay"? In that case, the closest Anglified pronunciation would be "Narshay", like St Khael says. Still, as I said, if you feel like saying Narsh or Narshee or Narsheh or Noodlebloopsh or whatever, that is fine by me.

"NAR shee"

And I don't care what the staff call this place; I call it Caves of Narshee. Luckily, I almost never have an occasion to pronounce this out loud.

Also, "bahb-eel", roughly equal stress on both syllables. Maybe more on the second.

(Also, it's "pronunciation", with a nun in the middle.)

Your poll was in April of 2011 - Wham

The earliest topic on this subject I found is from March of 2003 - Bam

The verdict - it's a nice idea to search for similar old topics before you create a new one, but it ultimately doesn't matter - Thank you ma'am

And by the way, I still prefer "Narsh."

The Japanese E sound is not a diphthong like AY, it's closer to EH. AY would be written in Romanji as EI.

Since the Japanese have vowel sounds after every consonant except a final N, the fact that it's written NA-RU-SHE probably means that the E sound gets reduced just like the U sound in the middle syllable to make it as close to "Narsh" as their writing system allows.

By the sounds of it, Blinge, your Narsh-uh (which in my head sounds the same as Narsh-eh) appears to be the accurate Anglo-Japanese comparison.

I've always said Narsh, but I don't really have much qualm with being told that it should technically be NA-RU-SHE, with the reduced vowels to make it effectively sound like Nar-uh-sheh (or Nar-a-sh-a, if that helps infer my intonation). Plus, that sounds pretty damn close to how I would imagine hearing it said in Japanese.

I'm not so keen on the Narsh-ay school of thought.

Y'know, neither am I, even though that's how I say it. It's probably a bit between ay and eh. I somehow managed to pick it up from the pronunciation of "recipe" and the like.

I suppose it's like Porsche; some people pronounce it Porsh and some people pronounce it Porsh-uh. It's a matter of preference I guess.
