So far, i'm having fun, but i am finding myself that i enjoyed the snes version more.
Gameplay:The game seems to be a lot of fun.Its abandoned all turn based combat, and is an action rpg where you can move around the map and kill things in real time. This also means you can change between characters by touching the screen, and changing characters. Each character has 2 special moves, and you can charge your regular attack and special moves to make a really powerful special attack which deals far more damage. Guy:He is able to knock enemies down and deal massive damage. He also can break cracked walls or crystals with his power attack, and knock them down from platforms with his special. Maxim can do a rush attack which sends him across the room with a quick attack. This is very useful against irritating poisonous enemies, and he does a fire type attack at enemies. Selan:SHe has 2 attacks;her combo attack which involves her throwing her weapon at an enemy in close range, and her disk attack which hits enemies at long range. Her long range disk also serves to hit out of reach disks, and break a certain type of crate that nobody else can break. Tia:She is a mid range damage dealer who fights with her fists. She has like a boxing glove that shoots out and hits enemies at mid range, and deals really high damage. She also has a hook shot that allows her to grapple things and bring them to her or to grapple onto poles to reach new locations. Dekar:He is a mix between all characters, depending on what you give him. Elements:Each character has an element, like:Selan is ice, maxim is fire, and i believe that tia is lightning. Mystic stones:There are these things called mystic stones which give you almost all your stats and allow you to use abilities.Leveling up gives you no stats or nearly no stats, so you really need to use these mystic stones. At the very beginning you won't know this, and most probably will be wondering why you are so weak. Puzzles:There are many puzzles in this game to solve just like the others, except that now you jump around like in an action game, and start solving puzzles to get ahead. There is one slight issue, and that has to do with the camera angle which is fixed on the ds.This leads to some annoyances in some puzzle areas, and in figuring out when the boss will attack. Boss battles:At times, the patterns seem all too random, and become quickly frustrating, like gades.I also think that the gades fight is repeated too many times. Story:The story seems to follow lightly on the snes classic, but changes it up a bit.I am half way through, and some bits i don't remember being in the snes.Still, most of those other bits are trivial anyways, and the real important ones are followed on. Music:The music is retouched in many areas. The cave music is exactly the same one you hear in the snes, and the tower music is exactly the same as the tower piece in the snes. The boss battle theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9M001Babz0o and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_sQDL2lyCU make a return to lufia ds.I would have liked more variety in the music to tell you the truth. While the battle theme is epic, it is the only other theme there is.In lufia 2 for the snes, there were 3 battle themes on the snes, and there is 1 theme per variety of dungeon hence:1 tower theme and 1 cave theme, and since that is all we do, we hear those 2 themes over and over. Graphics:I like the graphics very much to tell you the truth.I like the way all the characters look.I think the representation fits very well. Nice to see that someone else knows this series exists. Lufia sadly remains largely unknown and could benefit immensely from being put on Virtual Console.

I've been a fan since the 90's when it came out.

Wait, it's not on VC? That's a real shame! I'm not a huge fan but I'd love to see it get on VC. The original Lufia 2 is a good solid JRPG with interesting strategic elements.

Virtual Console. Basically, a download-based sales platform and emulator for older games, available for Wii. Lets you buy NES, SNES, and N64 (maybe?) games for play on the Wii.
