This is my opinion as far on the topic:

Secret of mana:

Has a decent amount of weapons and magic, but character development and story is almost non existent.

Secret of evermore:

The cheesy jokes about cheesy sci fi movies are actually really cool idea, but its making fun of itself as a cliché that makes fun of cheesy sci fi movie dialogue.The game falls apart at times, especially in between after the moment of fire eyes where you end up on the coast.The game is very atmospheric though, and i really like the variety.

What i like most about it, is the cheesy jokes and the alchemy abilities.I think personally that alchemy is really cool idea that comes from the ultima series.(making spells) There is an unlimited amount of alchemy ingredients you can search for, but it will be frustrating to level up the spells, and it is true that there could have been better design on the alchemy.

Overall:i personally prefer the gameplay of secret of evermore.Its mostly the same, but you only control 2 characters, which is a +.but i also like the alchemy ability more.
