I tried to get as many as reasonable in that list. That is most of the well-known ones for now, but FF14 is out now so soon the list will be obsolete; which I suppose is why I included the classic, if obnoxious, "other" option.
Personally, I like Cecil. His journey from darkness to Paladinhood is just so classically heroic. And his real love for Rosa, his continual forgiveness toward Kain, and his unbreakable determination to protect Rydia are just so admirable. In general, I am a fairly calm and reasonable person; but whenever I start playing FF4 I just start to totally freak out, like fangirl screaming like "cecil what the heck you are awesome I love you and want to marry you but simultaneously ship you with Rosa." It is a complicated emotion. But anyway what are all your favorites? Obviously this is mainly aimed at girls but if you are a guy who has an opinion you are welcome to join. Which hero do you the most, well, heroic? |

Locke is my favorite male protagonist. I think the question might be better phrased, "who is your favorite FF male lead?" Also, Ramza is missing. Also, I dislike 2/3 of this list.

I null voted accidently, but I would vote for Locke as well. No other male lead really interests me beyond an aesthetic level (which almost every one does).

Cecil, easily. He shows such repentance for his actions and such a clear, strong conscience. I think it's a bigger struggle to go from actually doing horrible things, to doing good things, than it is to always do good things. His tale possibly cliche and dramatic, but I like the idea of a knight who really reaalizes his wrongs, and takes away his well-respected status to do what he feels is right in the world.
Although Square seems to think they really hit the jackpot with anti-heroes who seem more pissed off to save the world than determined, they're not really my style. I want a hero to be passionate and optimistic, not an aloof fool with stupid hair (I'm looking at you, Cloud, Squall, and Lightning!). -------------------- You're telling me that there's no hope. I'm telling you you're wrong. |

I put Zidane but I really should have picked other because Vivi would have to be my favorite male Final Fantasy hero.

I find it interesting that you like Cecil for his tale of redemption then dislike Cloud for his. If anything, it seems to me that Cloud's story takes elements from Cecil's. Possible spoilers: highlight to view They both used to work for the evil people in power (Cagnazzo/Shinra). They both promise to protect a girl, then fail to do so (Rydia/Aeris). They both have a hidden connection to the main antagonist of the story (Golbez/Sephiroth). They both have to find their true selves through internal conflict (Mt. Ordeals/The Lifestream). That said, Cloud is my second favorite after Locke. After that, it's probably Ramza. Cecil falls into fourth place as a leading man and I generally dislike the rest of them. -------------------- Wha? For the sake of expediency, I'm interpreting 'hero' to be the main protagonist, in which case it's Zidane by a good long stretch. Every cast post-VI hero is an unmitigated disaster of unlikeability, cept for the one shining jewel that is IX.
Now Cecil 'n Butz are 'okay', but that's all they are. Sure, compared to later entries they're practically Godsends, but taken on their own, they're actually pretty bland and not having much in the way of actual personality. Zidane however spills over with the stuff. He's outgoing, he's brash, he's honest, clever, and so much more...but the big thing about him is that he's supportive. Be it peeps he's never met like Vivi 'n Garnet, or old pals like Freya or his troupe, the guy always always has their back. He may very well be the most selfless sunnuvabitch in the entire franchise. It literally defines his character arc in the game! Considering the self-centered nutters that surround his game, it's a no brainer. Well from the question I voted Squall because he's hands down the best looking male lead. 'Dashing' is probably the most accurate description he could get other than perhaps 'haughty'. If I had to pick a character to play Dorian Gray it would be Squall. He looks perfect and everyone in FFVIII acts like it. He can get away with anything, do anything, and people still love him.
But if you want my favourite hero it would be Zidane for all the reasons given by those above and also because I think it's nice to have a 'classical' hero doing all the right things and yet not coming across as boring or naive. His character sits nicely between edgy and virtuous. Also, I dislike 2/3 of this list. I voted for Cecil but like a lot of people I think my absolute favorite male lead has to be Locke. He's got that loveable rogue quality (think Han Solo) about him. Cecil is a close second but a few points are deducted for being a little bit on the emo side of things. Quote I want a hero to be passionate and optimistic, not an aloof fool with stupid hair (I'm looking at you, Cloud, Squall, and Lightning!). That's essentially my problem with the later "heroes" in the FF series. Squall ESPECIALLY rubbed me the wrong way. I personally like Tidus( XD i was the only one who voted for him so far) because he is a very realistic character. He is an athlete of the GREATEST SPORT EVER!!! Plus with the mother and father issues he can be a very relatable character. Plus this is probably biased opinion because FFX was my first Final Fantasy because when i was 4 the Sphere grid was the easiest thing for leveling up because FF9 was just way too hard for me LOL.

I voted cecil.
Cecil is brave and repentant as said before. Cyan is another good one, and a really good male character, because of having to cope with loss. Kain would be another great male contestant.Never do we see a character out of jealousy in another ff game turn bad and is jealous of his friend as is kain.I think kain's love for rosa makes an interesting twist. Ramza/delita:They have a sort of Riu/jowy relationship from suikoden 2, and its very tragic. You could argue that the death of teta, and delita being pushed away because of her tragic death and because of manipulation by the bad guys leads to a very sad events. -------------------- We are stardust. Our bodies are made from the guts of exploding stars. Locke Cole's the man.
You could say that he "Stole " my heart ![]() / gets kicked But really, his backstory with Rachel made me cry so much, and how he was upset about how he couldn't protect her and that he failed and everything and ... and... and the whole Phoenix Cave thing .... ![]() This post has been edited by berryfunny on 22nd September 2013 15:04 -------------------- Top Three fave Final Fantasies Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy V [ GBA ] |

I voted Cloud. I did take the question at face value, and that's why - he is a dashing lead, with his mannerisms, his initial confidence, and "distinctive" hair. I recognise all of the criticisms around Cloud - the odd hair, confused backstory etc etc, and the fact the dark and mysterious, angst ridden emo archetype has gone too far in FF games of late, but for pure dash I have to say Cloud.
EDIT: It seems the question has been re-edited since I posted this answer, so now I'd have to say, my "favourite" overall is Locke. Of course, I can't vote twice in the same poll... ![]() This post has been edited by Archeosaur on 22nd September 2013 17:27 -------------------- I'm never relaxed Even when I say I am I'm always on the alert Looking for the problem |

Of those listed, I strongly prefer Cecil (followed by Locke), but Ramza is easily my favorite.

Delita. He's manipulative, ruthless, and ambitious. It all comes from his feelings of resentment and hate towards the nobles for what they did to his sister, but there's one exception. Throughout all Delita's betrayals and coups, he counts on Ramza. He wanted Ramza to defeat the Shrine Knights and stop the FINAL BOSS SPOILER just as much as anyone. Delita's feelings and motivations are a little complex, but there's nothing complicated about his brotherly love for his childhood best friend.
So yeah Delita. -------------------- |
