Posted this over at EoFF, thought I'd get y'all's take on it.
Quote (Spooniest;3299036) My brother and I were discussing an interpretation I had come up with about Shadow's climactic dream... Possible spoilers: highlight to view where he refuses to mercy-kill Billy (Baram in the Woolsey version). I thought that Shadow might be an unreliable narrator; after all, is there anything less reliable than dreams? I think Shadow actually DID kill him, and this is where all the guilt he suffers comes from. So, anyway, one thing led to another, and we came up with an outline for a prequel to FF6. Check 'er out: Possible spoilers: highlight to view 1. King Figaro hears about the Magitek Engine, and hires Clyde and Billy to steal the plans, for the sum of one million gil. 2. Clyde and Billy steal them and run for it. They meet up with Princess Sara in Maranda, who is there to take them back to The Kingdom of Colingen by boat (The Kingdom of Colingen is allied with Figaro). 3. The boat gets attacked at sea, disabled, and drifts to Thamasa, where we meet Relm's mother for the first time. 4. They send word to Colingen (by carrier pigeon) that they need to get picked up. Meanwhile, magic is afoot! Billy and Sara strike up a romance, as do Clyde and Relm's mother. 5. They return to Colingen, where they're just about to head to Figaro, when the Empire brutally attacks. Colingen is razed to the ground, and Clyde, Billy and Princess Sara are captured. 6. Kefka gives Clyde and Billy an ultimatum: kill the king of Figaro, or Sara dies horribly. Naturally, being decent human beings (while a bit shady), Clyde and Billy start looking for a way out of it, but have to at least appear to comply. 7. Clyde and Billy begin to disagree. Clyde thinks they should try to enlist King Figaro's help rescuing Sara, but Billy hints that he's worried the plan isn't going to come off. Billy feels like he "has to do what he has to do." 8. Clyde starts telling the King of Figaro what's really happening; he's about to out them, and Billy panics, because he's worried Kefka is listening (Kefka gets to him). In the climax of the game's story, Billy suddenly poisons King Figaro, and he and Clyde have to smurfING RUN. 9. They make it back to the Empire, and go to Kefka to get Sara back. Kefka releases Sara, but Sara is very upright (not to mention really pissed off that her country has been utterly destroyed), and knows exactly what Kefka is. She tries to kill him, and Clyde and Billy are dragged into the fight. They actually do a pretty good job of kicking his ass, but at the last second, Kefka whips out some experimental Magitek Grenade, and Sara takes the blast, and dies in Billy's arms. 10. Clyde and Billy are wounded as well (Billy much worse), and they get in Setzer's airship and intend to fly to Thamasa and hide for the rest of their lives. The airship is attacked by Kefka, and while it survives, Clyde and Billy are hurled off the main deck, and into Baren Falls. 11. Billy tells Clyde to kill him, so that he won't be caught and tortured to death by Kefka. This scene is portrayed as it appears in FF6, with one important difference...Clyde kills Billy. 12. Epilogue - Clyde has one last escape to make, and Imperial Troopers dog him all the way to Mobliz, where he jumps into the channel and swims for it. He winds up back in Thamasa, finds Relm's mother, and we segue to his final dream from FF6, in which he says "You've come to fetch me, but I won't be coming back. I want you, and the girl to live in a peaceful world." There's some more tie-in story with Final Fantasy 6 that we came up with to explain certain inconsistencies, but that, essentially, is the story we thought of. Whaddaya think? -------------------- X is blue. |

I really like it. It is creative and makes a certain amount of sense. You should post it in the Fanfiction section of the CoN.

Well, see, my brother has a copy of RPG maker on his computer (which could probably make my computer cry like a little girl). If we ever get the time to sit down and hammer it out, we were going to make a fan game.
But like I said, he's the brains as far as the game engine, I only came up with this outline, and with his help. -------------------- X is blue. |

Eh. Honestly, I like parts, and I don't like others. Certainly I think it could be tied into the story alright, but the inclusion of Setzer's airship (which is completely unexplained), Figaro, and Kefka strike me as more Hollywood than necessary. A more simple story about a train robbery sounds better to me, honestly.

What would you do instead? Please, feel free to elaborate.

Table top would be a cool experiment and you can get the Community involved.

Well, this sounds familliar. I know Corda has been busy with music projects in recent days, but his FF VI prequel didn't amount to a whole lot.
I don't want to seem cold, but I would abandon the idea of making a prequel game and write fan fiction. As a general rule I'm extremely pessimistic about people undertaking game design or animation projects of this nature without real experience. Your story ideas are neat, but two people using a copy of RPGMaker in their spare time to create a game prequel on a lark... I'm not optimistic. But hey, if you're determined and willing to put in all those hours, go ahead. -------------------- |
