Uuuuuuuh, I think I finally know why Squeenix says there are technical issues.
I don't think a brightly-colored world full of magical mechs and goofy hijinks would be able to keep its E rating if it's going to make kids ask their parents why babies float down from the sky when a man and woman fly through the ceiling. Edit: and yet, as I am shocked to learn, the GBA version is rated E10+. They conceive a child on screen. How did that get past the censors? You make a compelling point. What most of us though to be a sweet and romantic scene depicting a relationship beginning could easily be taken as conception. In this case...explaining the sparkles and glitter could get...difficult. I had always imagined the spinning and the flying through the ceiling to be a depiction of the passing of time: more like Madonna going back into the esper village and learning to live with them and then conceiving the child once a real relationship was established beyond Maduin's fascination of humans.
That and there's that whole 'babies are a gift from heaven' notion for the kids. This whole is strange to me however considering there are games out now with ideals such a GTA where ladies of the evening are employed then murdered to regain health and money and even God of War and Tomb Raider, the first containing the equivalent of an orgy and the latter alleged rape. If we can put these games in the hands of our children than why is it an issue to place something that in my opinion was tastefully done in them as well? ...I don't understand... Well to be fair, content standards for videogames have changed quite a bit since when FFVI was first released.

Because they aren't conceiving a child on screen, they're using symbolism to make you understand that they had a child together. It's an abstract representation; don't get so hung up on it, I assure you SE isn't.
