So, you all know the picture of Terra. It's a classic: She's staring dreamily, with greyish cat eyes and ruby lips. There's a butterfly for no reason, she's wearing one shoulder pad. There are flowers there and she's extremely pale.
Beautiful masterpiece This classic!! For some reason, for like a decade my brain didn't process this picture right at all. Could be from the tribute CD, it had poor image quality (though was amazing!). I dunno. But I saw her as this weird were-beast with a stupid grin and her boobs hanging out. Not cute These images are huge :S This is what I saw?! I mistook her crazy slave crown for her eyes, an eye for a mouth, and so on. So for a very long time, I just thought this Amano guy was horrible and too abstract for me. So here's the horrible interpretation of this that I did. It's horrifying. She's a monster ![]() -------------------- You're telling me that there's no hope. I'm telling you you're wrong. |

I'm still not a fan of his art style. Everyone looks like a sad vampire.

I'm not much a fan of Amano's art style either. I'm unfamiliar with this Terra picture but I've seen his FFIV and FFVI art in general and while they might make interesting concept art I think the in-game pics are better.

I never liked his work for the games either, and much of my friends were of the same opinion. His best work, in my opinion, is with the Vampire Hunter D series (novels not manga). It feels like he 'pulled out all the stops' and delivered his real skill.
I've also always wondered about his seeming obsession with zebra stripes... >_> VidaV99: Somewhere along the way I heard that they opted to change the hair on the sprite color to keep the sprite from getting confused with Celes. This always seemed poor planning to me considering that Celes' sprite is just a revamp of Rosa from IV which left me even more confused. ...I also refuse to cosplay Terra with blonde hair...'Tis a gaming sin I tell you...A GAMING SIN! x3 This post has been edited by St Khael on 6th August 2013 18:09 -------------------- I'm your Mama Terra, come hang out with me around the internet! Are we really that po-faced that we've turned potentially the best thread on here in years into an earnest discussion of Amano's merits?!
I LOVE these kind of hilarious visual misinterpretations the brain latches onto. The closest famous one I can think of is mutant-mouth Pierce Brosnan from Goldenegg, but this is so much more delightfully deformed. I once suffered a sleepless night as a child as I had become convinced that a crumpled jumper on a chair was a dead cat, but that's quite another story. |

I love Amano's work, to preface, but moving on, I also loved the parody. I always found one of the best merits of more abstract art is how abstract it is. Maybe this is just me

Well done, NP, well done. I'll be honest, I have a hard time even seeing it as Relm has pointed out, but that monster she's leaning on... goodness, if that doesn't jump out at you.

Love the Amano interpretation. Haha!
Also, the Banner of the Empire is clearly a representation of Crocomire's face melting off in Super Metroid. ![]() This post has been edited by TheEvilEye on 8th August 2013 21:44 |

That is hilarious! Amano's art is not quite my preference, but it is growing on me. But oh man, that interpretation. It made me lol.
