It's 1v1 arena combat with 22 characters - one hero and one villain from FF I through FF X, plus Shantotto from FF XI and Gabranth from FF XII. Chaos from FF I is the final boss. Your characters level up, learn new abilities, and have customizable equipment just like an RPG. Here's a video that I found after a 10 second YouTube search.

Normally you press buttons with directional inputs, sort of like special moves in Super Smash Bros. You choose what attacks and spells to equip before each battle.

EDIT: there is an "RPG Mode" where you fight using menus instead of button commands, but it's only for single-player. Multiplayer is buttons-only.

It plays nothing like traditional 2d fighters. You move in three dimensions and can run up walls and fly across the battlefield. You get a jump button, a block/reflect button, and two attack buttons. You also have two "life" bars to keep track of: HP and Brave. Then you have two kinds of attacks: attacks that drain brave from your opponent and attacks that hurt your opponents HP (based on your own Brave). You also have equipment and accessories and summons. . . It's a lot to get used to but the action is pretty fun once you do. Also, if you're going to get it, get Duodecim (more characters available).

Wha? Thanks to me?
