As you can probably tell from the title, I just beat a level 60 grand dragon with a level 20 team on FF9 on the first disk. I was pretty pleased with myself and since none of my friends have any idea what that means i felt like telling the internet!
It makes for happy training and really insane out of this world levels for being so early on in the game ![]() Yay go me. heh heh ![]() -------------------- *Sigh*....Times are tough |

Not too shabby. It'll be the best way to power-level that early, although given how crappy most of the equipment is, you're short-changing yourself on long-run stat gains. All those piddly fractions do add up...

Its dead easy with the right equipment after you have got some in the Steiner scene at the place with the card tornamant.

Funny you should bring this up. I've just started on FFIX again after the FFIX vs FFVIII thread and beating the dragons before Burmecia is by far the hardest thing to do on the first disk - and maybe the entire game - so it's worth putting a bit of time in. I picked up a few tricks on the way. Donning the Magus Hat on Vivi boosts his Ice and therefore Blizzara to a strong magic with a Focus or two. Eating with Quina after the dragon loses 75% health is the best way to finish obviously. Speaking of Quina, Lvl 3 Def-less boosts those Blizzaras as well. Coral Ring keeps you in the fight. I don't think it's possible to win without it. Keep Zidane and Freya at the ready to Phoenix Down if someone is clawed. Buy as many Downs as possible in Lindblum because it's a trek back without a Chocobo. Antibody with everybody. Not as hard as it is on paper.
Edit: Never thought of the Silk Shirts, that's clever. I think I sold them all though. Forgot to put Pumpkin Head in the list. Very useful I agree. silk shirts i think too, they half thunder damage and also antibody so poison breath cant do anything to you. which was handy
![]() i stuck coral ring on vivi since he was the only one doing real damage. and now im on disk two with a level 60/50 team it rocks. and soooooo much money. -------------------- *Sigh*....Times are tough |

Level 13 team, zidane with coral ring idle and using phoenix down when needed, freya jumping and using phoenix down, vivi blizzara and phoenix down, quina lv 3 def-less phoenix down and eat. Took 2 tries and alot of phoenix downs but it works, 9 grand dragons later I'm level 31. Finished every battle with everyone standing.
