[idk where to put this as we don't have a general fanart forum, but this is mostly geared towards fanartists who submit to CoN-- anyone is welcome to join though!]


I haven't submitted anything in a while, for a few reasons. The main one being that I'm BORED! I just don't have much of a drive to put something full-fledged together. Have been working on a huge piece, but am getting more and more overwhelmed.

Was wandering if you guys wanted to all do a challenge of sorts, like we all pick a theme and each draw them in our own styles. I LOVED our fanart collab, it's nice to see everyone's styles and I think we all have different, interesting perspectives. A few ideas I had would be:

-Pick a character who gets absolutely no fanart love, and all draw them/each pick a different character
-Different "themes," and we could decided if we could do any character from any game, or which game to focus on: Epic battles, sword fights, inter-party rivalry, romance, innocence, fear, hatred, before the game, after the game, ice spells, chocobo rides, simple, vague stuff like that that's up to interpretation.
-Pick a scene from a game (Example: the coin toss scene in FFVI, Garnet's hair cutting scene in IX), and each draw that in our own style.
-I remember there was a fan-art a while back that did a bit of a funny re-imagining of dialoge, This one by The_Apocrypha , and we could do something like that.

Was wondering who would be in? I'd like for this to be an ongoing thing Maybe we could do one every two-three weeks or something to give people with busy schedules time to put something together, and take requests/bounce off ideas for the next challenge.

I might participate, too, depending on the subject/theme/etc. (goodness knows I could use the inspiration), but good luck keeping this goin'. Judging from experience in another forum I frequent, you're gonna need more than the five or six peeps who still regularly post fanart here to do so.

Honestly, if even just the five regulars post, I think we'll have a great time. I like seeing everyone's take on things ,and a newcomer would be just as welcome as someone whose technique we all know and love



Here's mine, scratchy as it is. The wind shrine! Kinda pissed at myself; I hid several layers, then saved as JPG without deleting those layers (all the turquoise, sloppy lineart), so they saved on the original and I didn't save the PSD of the image of course. Sigh.

Kame!! Galsic!! I hope you join! I'm giving everyone 3 weeks per topic, to give lots of wiggle room, also so if you miss one, you can just strategize the next. I don't care if it's a full blown masterpiece or a sketchy design, just whatever gets your juices flowing : ) This is for you all (and me), as artists, and for the website (I'm hoping some of the better ones turn into fanart submissions)!

Soo, since the last thing I posted was on the 24th, the next concept will begin on Feburary 14th, which leaves us with two options:

My first idea was Status Effects (haste/poison/slow/regen, etc, whichever to whoever you'd like). Buuut, since it's Valentine's day, what do you guys think? Something mushy and romantic? I'm for either, personally I think the status ailments one could turn out interesting, and maybe be a challenge for everyone too (GLOWY EFFECTS!). But! I can't resists a looooove scene! Hell, maybe both-- a Valentine's day card using a pickup line that's a status effect? Bahahaha.

Charm status effect. That is all.

Work getting in the way of me really doing anything.

Been working on this instead of homework. Not that great but I'm learning. Animating slower than what I had is set to. I'll have to figure that out later.

Looks great, Kame, will definitely be getting a good rating from me!

I'm always really impressed by animated art. Not only is it good art, which is something I already couldn't even begin to achieve myself, but on top of that it's good art in a carefully articulated sequence of adaptions that not only have to be reasonably subtle but also authentic to the movement of the body in question, human or otherwise. So yeah, bravo!

Great stuff, everyone. This sounds like fun, so I thought I'd give it a go. Still working on my original wind idea (not sure if I'll have time this month to complete it), but here's one that also popped out after reading Glenn's "Charm" suggestion. I figured maybe it could pass as what a Lamia might look like in the middle of casting a Charm spell on you.

If so, I'd like to do FIRE. There's so much you can do with fire. Spells, summons, elementals, and heck, even crystals.

Actually, I was hoping y'all would avoid that particular direction with the wind theme . Also, I'm a little meh on the fire idea (another element?), but I guess it doesn't matter a whole lot to me. I've been a little too preoccupied for this, and, really, I've barely touched my drawing pad during the past few months. Still, I'll keep an eye on this thread and see if any other ideas pop up, or even just some cool new pics from y'all.

Very interesting style. The squiggly line work on top of the smooth vector shapes with additive overlaps and fading gradients make for a neat translucent look. Almost reminds me of a glass etch and stain. Seems to add a ghostly menace to the subject too.
