kk i just needed to say something some place where i knew intellectual people who won't pull what this rants about on me.
So i never thought the people you could play with on CoD could get worse than it has been. I was proven wrong when i went back to black ops 2 days ago. Since then i've been harassed about being an american. I'll be talking to my friends and get F you stupid yada yada american! out of no where.
Nothing new yet? yeah i know but i saved the best for last. i've actually been sent private PM's on psn by random people showing people, "burning american flags, killing people, showing people shooting children, insert more profane images saying screw you america"
I'm just stumped at this stuff happening. I've always been a nice reasonable guy on this game. If i start getting mad i turn my mic off. If someone does good i compliment him and i don't quit because someone is doing better than me. And people respond by telling me to leave their game and/or do very colorful things with my (insert family member here)

well that's off my chest. i feel better now. Anyone else have any horror stories from online gaming?

There ARE no horror stories because online gaming IS a horror story.

Besides Animal Crossing and Smash Bros.

Some online gamers are stupid. But the best you can do is not let them get to you.

I've had a few people get frustrated after I've pointed out that calling me a "homo" isn't really an insult... XD

I've given and received my share of abuse online (you can listen to the hilarious and horribly nsfw results here)
and while sometimes it can get outrageously out of hand, especially in console shooters, it's best ignored. People will pick on anyone for any given reason, just because they can. Playing Halo on XBL was actually a nightmare just to the sheer volume of abuse you would take in a day. Eventually, you can either decide that you'd rather play with friends alone or not play online at all. Or, you can just turn down voice-chat these days and pretend they aren't talking at all.

Also, no one should ever play Left 4 Dead with me. Ever.

I actually read an article in OXM (Official XBox Magazine) about how to deal with nitwits online, and the author said that while playing MW2 (I think) he lost pretty bad (in a group), and he saw the mic. icon flashing like crazy for the other team, so he turned his mic back on and heard the kids saying stuff like "I bet they're crying right now cuz we beat them so hard", and do you know what he did?

"Actually, we were just talking about how good you guys were! You really got us!"

Other team: "Uh, wow, I don't know what to say cuz I didn't expect you to say stuff like that."

The nitwit killed him with a gun.
He killed him with kindness.

lol you know i've sucked it up a few times and done something similar. not the same results. i told a group, "good job guys. you where really good." they replied by saying i need to stfu and go suck my.... yeah. sometimes the somewhat more mature people take the compliment and become fun to play with. but some groups can't even take a compliment without talking trash about everyone.

I HAVE found that the game type you play on CoD will effect the kind of people you meet. i've met all of these terrible people on Team Deathmatch. have had NO problems with anyone i've met playing capture the flag or Headquarters the last 2 days and made some friends. but first and only team deathmatch i do i start hearing more trash. same with the only free for all i've done in months on black ops.

so i'd say go with the heavy team based games that the average joe cod player wouldn't play to help reduce jerk encounters. been working for me so far.

I can vouch for this. And we were playing freaking GUNBOUND at the time.

Personally, I've been playing League of Legends a lot recently, and so far as trolling goes, this is one of the worst games for flaming. Not only is the other team flaming you, but your own team will crawl up your ass and die as well. So, I dunno about CoD, but a team game doesn't necessitate any nicety amongst team members.

Eh, at this point, I've grown some pretty tough skin against trolling in games, and I admit, I troll a hell of a lot too. Some people are just awful though, and they aren't going to get less awful if nobody tells them to they suck. This is my belief, anyway. Also, it's fun biggrin.gif .

TrueBOSS you must've been playing with some pretty awful people. I'm surprised by how few Americans they must've played against/with. Maybe they were just taken aback by the fact that you weren't pretending to be Canadian?

Well I've not had really bad experiences but I have had someone in Starcraft 2 telling me that Terran was OP even though we were both Terran. I spoke to him afterwards and he was deadly serious, Terran are overpowered against Terran and that's how I won. What??
