Hi, I have the Super Nintendo Final Fantasy III and I play the ROM on SNESx9 too. I was wondering which is better to play? I don't know so i am asking people with advice. I currently play ROM because the files dont get deleted but if you play Super Nintendo the gameplay feels different.

Personally I like playing consoles better for basiclly two reasons sound quality and the whole rewind button which I use all to much.  I just can't help it it just there.  Also save states are really cheat.  But when ever I play roms I use the latest versions of Zsnes which I think is way better then Snex for mainly the sound quality difference.

I recommend console.
Emulation is useful for making reviews, maxing out, etc., but consoles have a better feeling, way better sound quality...
I only play ROMs, because getting a SNES in Poland is out of my league in manipulating, or money. Blah! I play ZSnes if that's interesting.

Playing a console is much nicer than playing a ROM or emulator. The sound quality among a lot of things gets better, and when I play on an emulator, I use frame skip and save states all the time, even though I don't really want to. This spoils a lot of gameplay. Plus, just the feeling of sitting in front of your TV with a gamepad in your hand and a SNES on the floor just beats any computer game (for me) ^_^ .

However, some games can only be found on ROM:s. FF6, for example, was never released here in Sweden. So the only way to get it on console is to order a specially rebuilt SNES that can play cartridges from any country, and then import FF6 from another country. Costs a lot of money AND is almost impossible nowadays. Therefore, I'm forced to choose emulators. :(

But the first time I played FF6 through was on a console! My friend had that special console + the game, and I borrowed it from him. I'm so happy I got to experience FF6 on a console. :E

But then he sold it all...

The first FF I played was FF7, on the PC.  I've been playing on the PC from the beginning, and to me, playing them on a console feels wrong.

I realise I'm in a minority.  But at the end of the day, it's down to your individual personal preference.

And, you can get better quality sound out of an emulator than a real SNES, depending on how you configure it.  You have to play with the options a bit, but recent versions of ZSNES have a very good sound core.  Snes9X less so, but enabling Anti Resonance's magic option in the sound options screen helps it a lot.

I wouldn't like to play on the PC without a gamepad though.  Indeed, I couldn't get far in FF7 when I first started it because I only had my keyboard.  Try a Gravis Gamepad Pro for SNES-like controls, if you can still find one.

I actually just about six months ago got a Gamepad Pro USB, and it is perfect for SNES and PSX games both, at least games that can be played well without the analog sticks.

I prefer playing on my PC, now. I have every FF game that was released for a console in the US, in one form or another. (Pre-FFX, that is). But I still play all the SNES and NES ones on my PC, because it's just a lot more convenient (and in the case of FFV and FFVI on PSX, much more optimized).

First off, I'm with the console people, and secondly, I was looking for a computer controller just a few hours ago, but realized I knew nothing about it. Thanks Tiddles. :)
