I don't care for the crossover Tales/FFVII one so much, but wow, that FFVI anime is awesome! That's some really impressive fanwork. All the characters get some coverage, with a couple quirky bits and a couple major character scenes getting highlighted as well. Audio remix is fitting, and use of the logo was pretty solid too. I really enjoyed it, thanks for linking!

Maybe I'm just not really that familiar the anime and the games they are crossed with but what makes them cross overs? Is it the art style?

I think they're footage from anime theme song or other scenes edited to show the characters from the game doing something related.

I don't think the FFVI video is a crossover. The FFVI one only uses re-realized FFVI material; it's all FFVI characters that you see, FFVI music re-arranged, and events only from FFVI pictured.

The other one, on the other hand, uses music and scenes from Tales of the Abyss, but is peopled by FFVII characters. The FFVII characters literally just fill in the spots occupied by the Tales of the Abyss characters. A lot of the scenes/footage, like GMH suggested, are even directly pulled from the original video. Oh, I figured both were like that, since I noticed a distinct FMA art style from the FFVI video. Maybe I'm wrong.

The video is the second opening and first closing animation for FMA, with all the characters replaced with FFVI characters and some actions cleverly editted around as well.
