I heard some call morrowind the best in the series, while others call daggerfall the best.
I heard some complaints, like its just random towns through each playthrough. I haven't played too many pc rpgs, and am looking for a new experience. I await your answers -------------------- We are stardust. Our bodies are made from the guts of exploding stars. Neil Degrasse Tyson. |

Isn't Daggerfall freeware now?
-------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. You can find me on the Fediverse! I use Mastodon, where I am @[email protected] ( https://sakurajima.moe/@glennmagusharvey ) |

Daggerfall is indeed free. You can download it from the official site.
I haven't played Daggerfall, but I have played Morrowind, and I had a lot of fun with it. The mechanics are more open than either Oblivion or Skyrim, allowing for some interesting options, and the world design is also more varied and interesting (though Skyrim came very close on this front and obviously looked a lot better in the process.) That said, it does show its age now. In the traditional designed-for-PC vein, it's harder to get going than the newer games, and the visuals are much, much less impressive when you've seen what modern games can do (though the actual design, as I say, knocks Oblivion into a cocked hat). I can only assume - and what I've read in the past seems to agree - that the same applies to Daggerfall, only more so. But since Daggerfall's free, you may as well try that first, I'd say. |
