FF1 is not that bad in grinding, because you got such high encounter rates, and will likely level up while gaining money. What is a problem, is the ridiculously high encounter rates in certain places, which seemed higher.
Besides that:i liked ff1.I forgive it because its old, and had limitations.Other games had things i liked about it, but FFX i felt consistant about disliking stuff about it:Story:drags on too long.Characters wer ok, but it felt like i keep hearing the same things from them.Monster variety:There was no variety hardly. -------------------- We are stardust. Our bodies are made from the guts of exploding stars. OP, i never understood the criticism of XIII as targeted solely on its linearity. The big problem, it seems, is that, at the same time it leaves the player almost no interaction with the world around him, it also fails to deliver depht to the narrative, with shallow chars and a very "forced" plot or drama.
Also, no matter how linear SE or JRPGs of the past are linear, they all (or most of them) delivered some kind of contextualization, so the player could feel that he was on a different reality, such as towns, shops and so on. Instead, FFXIII seems to focus on flashy battle system, flashy clothes for the chars and flashy graphics. Small changes, that for many people, make all the difference. That, and they took away a lot, and added very little, like the auto battle.Bring back manual settings, and make every spell count please, even if you must change all those spells.
