I'm still kind of a newbie artist and smear stuff around when I draw. Sometimes accidents happen and I learn things from them.. so I just try everything I can think of. Anyway, I wanted to make Sephiroth with a really insane face, so I took some ideas from a drawing I found of Kefka. Haha. The irony.. but this was the vision I had of Seph when I was a kid. I thought he was insane and imagined him kind of like this.. only, as Square progressed with the never ending FFVII churn outs he became more and more... or rather, less and less.

Here is the point of my post. I combined the photos I used for reference. The one of seph has very little detail. I took the expression from Kefka, but the issue is that I took too much of the features. What should I do to shift it back toward Seph's face? This is my first time to draw something other than copying a picture. Help is appreciated.

Also, this is a very rough draft. I'm down to erase and/or start over.

1. Don't be afraid to use references! I dunno if you use deviantART at all, but they have a large library of stock images to use as references. Just be sure to read the artist's terms of use though.

2. Try laying out your sketch instead of just making a floating head. I see that your guy has just some features of his head and not much else. Do a rough layout drawing of what you want to see and refine it from there.

3. You're trying to draw Sephiroth with an expression like Kefka. Approach the drawing process the exact same way: focus on making your character Sephiroth and then put that crazy expression on his face. If you go about it the opposite way, you might end up with someone that's more of Kefka in Sephiroth's costume.
