So I may be four years under how old I should be to play M-rated games, but on my birthday this year (January 11), I recieved The Orange Box. Just for Portal. Half-Life 2? Couldn't care less. TF2? Don't have Live, and it's free on PC.

So about a week or so after school ended, I chatted with my dad about permission to play Half-Life 2, which is... uhrm... lemme check the box... "Rated M for Blood & Gore, Intense Violence, and Language".

Now, Portal is the only T-rated game in the whole package. I can play that. But when my dad said "Sure, go ahead and boot it up", I wasn't sure what I would expect.

I had seen my dad play through the first chapter of the game (he stopped at A Red Letter Day), so I knew what to expect, except a few things. This is where I realized the many different choices the player could make.

Instead of "picking up that can" and "putting it in the trash", I picked it up and chucked it at the CP's face. He gets extremely pissed and starts charging at me with his stun baton, so I run like hell out the door and close it behind me.

Achievement Unlocked- Defiant.

I keep playing (feeling bad about how I'm doing better than my dad did), and FINALLY get the Hazardous EnVironment (HEV) Suit, showing that there are first person games besides Metroid Prime that have an actual health bar. I, for one, was stoked, because it felt like getting the Varia or something. I then proceed and obtain a crowbar. Stuff happens, and I make it to Chapter 5.

The Gravity Gun is probably the best thing I've ever used in a video game. I felt like a Jedi: Pulling things towards me, punting them away

and abusing the crap out of Combine in Chapter 13-14
... It's oh-so satisfying.

Now, I think I'll shut up and let you guys respond. Just say anything about the Half-Life series in general.

I was NEVER a fan of the traditional FPS till the HL series. It's the only one I'll bother to play. I've played a few FPSs in my day but to me they were all so boring and the emphasis was on the KILL KILL KILL and the story took a backseat. HL series stood out to me because it did bother to make a good story that drew the player in. I love them all and hope Episode III will be released sometime in my lifetime XD

You know what...?

There are hardly any FPS games I even KINDA like, and only five that I'll play whenever I feel like it...

The Metroid Prime games, Goldeneye 007, and the Half-Life series.

I totally agree with everything you said, Kame.
