Anyone know of such hacks?

I know of only one, that being i90east's Final Fantasy VI Expert Version hack. For those of you who don't recognize the name, i90east is a CoN member who was active several years ago. He created this "Expert Version" hack which has improved enemy scripts and increased difficulty and fixes a few glitches. It also causes out-of-battle music to continue playing unless you go into battle against three or more enemies, if I recall correctly.

Are there other such hacks?

I was just thinking that something removing the battle music (for at least certain battles) in Chrono Trigger would be really nice, especially since the game doesn't differentiate between dungeon screen and battle screen.

Like here. Do you feel how the first battle comes much more smoothly than the second?

I always thought it was so cool whenever I entered an area where there was no specific battle music for random encounters. It really made that specific dungeon or area feel special for some reason - and indeed, presumably if the whole game isn't like that, the developers make specific areas have that feature for a reason.

When I replay older JRPG's these days, I think about just how much less monotonous all the random encounters would be if they just kept playing the background music instead of the same old battle music every single time. Back then it didn't bother me, but nowadays it does. Not sure whether it's because I'm older now, or just because I've played through DW3 (for example) many many times now.
