After a painfully long process, CoN is giving to you today, only five years after its release, our coverage for Final Fantasy V Advance (to accompany, of course, improved coverage of the PlayStation release). While it is one of the less-popular games that CoN covers, it remains a quality release even as it approaches its twentieth anniversary, and long ago we realized that our coverage of the game was the weakest of any game covered on the site.
While it did take us far too long to get this content out to you all, we're very proud of the work that we've done, particularly in the massive, Djibriel-penned walkthrough. The walkthrough was fantastic to begin with, with an immense depth, and having it CoN-nified will make it all the better for you too. We've added to that some more of our great CoN features, with all the equipment and monster data you've come to expect, along with our quality miniguides that make the trickiest parts of the game easy to access and easy to understand. Final Fantasy V is the only game we cover that I have not personally played from start to finish in any of its incarnations. This section is good enough that I now want to. (I probably still won't, but at least I want to!) While I played my usual role of slavedriver, though, this section really came to be based mostly on the hard work of others. They're all listed on the new Final Fantasy V landing page, and will all get their site awards quite soon, but I wanted to take the time to mention a few specifically: Djibriel, for offering us his fine work and being willing to work with us as we adjusted the tone a bit to best represent CoN; Death Penalty, who continued to push me and put way too much work into the section for someone who doesn't even particularly like the game; and EvilEye, who isn't even on the bloody site staff and never has been, but poured dozens of hours into testing simply because he loves CoN. I hope that you all take a look at this section today and in the days going forward, and that it helps push you toward wanting to play this game, on PSX or GBA (or even SNES), for the first time or for another time. Thanks to you all for visiting CoN and keeping work like this going through your very presence. Oh, and if the title of this news article confuses you, you need only look several years in the past. |

I think my favorite part is the encounter map. Now nothing will ever keep me from finding a Stingray again!

I wrote the first bits of this walkthrough in 2006. It was a different time back then. Josh wasn't a dad. Tiddles was still alive. Ipads were all made of wood. I remember walking all the way to the other side of town to purchase a simple cleaning droid. We've come a long way, baby.
I feel I should have more to say, but I'm just hoping you'll like the content. I can't say I've seen everything yet; that'll come soon, when I get to play through the game again with the CoN walkthrough at my side. But I'm really happy already. This map shows so perfectly what HTML can do where a text file falls flat. I'm excited about the feedback. Now here's hoping CoN can keep up with my philosophy of updating all day every day forever! -------------------- |

Always happy to see more quality content updated. I know there was a lot of speed bumps along the way, but wanted to say great job for sticking with it and continuing to work and improve it to look so great.
Cheers! |

Oh don't you worry Jav, that won't be ending anytime soon ![]() As the person who arguably had the most contact with the new walkthrough other than its author, I have to say that the document forming the heart of the new FFV section is something quite impressive. Bravo to Djibriel on that; he without a doubt sets the bar as high as any other walkthrough writer I've ever read. Considering what I've just said, I must insist that Josh's post here is a bit conservative. This is more than just improved coverage for FFV with the addition of GBA names and content; it's a complete overhaul, and I really think it shows. From the new, incredible walkthrough I mentioned above to that neat map magic several of you have already noted to all-new, convenient charts and miniguides, I think the new FFV section is something for CoN to be especially proud of. Great job to everyone who worked on this!
![]() I made use of Djibriel's walkthrough on GFAQs when I replayed the GBA version of FFV not long ago, it was an excellent and informative resource and having it alongside CoN's easy to navigate data and mini-guides is just wonderful. I'll definitely be checking out CoN's updated FFV section should I play the game again. -------------------- FF games completed: I (psp), II (psp), III (DS), IV (psp), V (GBA), VI (GBA), VII, VIII, IX, X, XI: Nations-Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, XII, XIII, XIV, XV. Spin-offs: FFIV: Interlude & The After Years, Crisis Core: FFVII, X-2, XIII-2, Lightning Returns, Type-0 HD, Dissidia, Dissidia 012, and Tactics (original & WotL). Enjoyed them all. |

Well, I guess I have to play the game again. I might actually even use the Blue Mage for once. That map is mighty nifty looking.

Yeah, I haven't played 5 advance yet, so I will probably have to add that to my backlog. 5's job system is great and it's one I don't mind replaying.

Nice work. It's one of my favorite FFs out there and it's good to see more effort and dedication put into the game here. I liked how the World Maps could be zoomed in and zoomed out too.
If you guys want to add full maps of locations, I have a vintage Japanese strategy guide (for the Super Famicom version) that I could do scans of if you'd like. |

It's an FFV remake, an' I helped!
Seriously, though, glad to see it's up and running, and I'm happy to have been a part of it, even in a small way! Definitely looks pretty awesome and I love all the features contained therein! Thank you, but if we were to add more maps we'd almost certainly either locate or hack together a dumper to pull them straight from the game. Scans aren't really the quality we'd be looking for. Additionally, the version in your guide wouldn't have maps for any of the added content, so we'd still have an incomplete collection. At user request, I just finished writing up shorter versions of Dji's massive boss strategies to be included on the Bosses page. For the best and most detailed info, you'll still want to go to the walkthrough, but this will give you quick hits when you just need to get past a boss. Enjoy!

Nice story bro.
Na seriously, "keep up the good work and we stay at friendly terms." Somethings to note: http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/ff5/special_equipment.php The chicken's knife gets also a damage boost by agility. Actually, for my game it become as strong as Apocalypse or even stronger than that! "For the Chicken Knife, M is Strength Factor + Agility Factor + 2. For the Brave Blade, it's Strength Factor + 2. If we assume Strength is equal to Agility and that the stats are significantly more important than the added constant (these are lategame weapons, after all) you will notice that the value of M for the Chicken Knife is pretty much twice as high as it is for the Brave Blade. So that is where I get "that idea"." http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/930369-fina...dvance/49660449 http://www.dos486.com/ff/bards/page3.shtml <- LOL! Swift Song rulez ![]() "Fact: Max pwoer chicken knife is STRONGER than max power Brave Blade due to how the algorithm works - Chicken Knife gets extra damage from Agility and (assuming similar value on strength and agility) does roughly double the amount of damage as weapons with the same weapon attack as it. It applies to the Man Eater too, which also for some reason gets the *2 damage bonus on Jump for spears." (Youtube) |

Tac: AFAIK Excalipoor deals full damage if thrown or used with goblin punch.
Superbosses could also contain a link to the Gilgame area. And those other superbosses - Isn't there a machine similiar to Omega in it' s appearance, world I only? Oh, and those 2 hydras near the earth crystal are also pretty though. Shive BEFORE visiting Walz' Tower. She is pretty though then. ![]() Blue magic, lv2 old: http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/ff5/w_enemy.p...::Level+Tricker Not sure, either it was him or the stronger version of it (it was that one you encounter at the tower with zeza), however, I wasn't able to learn lv2 old by that enemy, it simple didn't use it at all. I think I also tried confuse or control, no success. Can it be actually learned by that enemy? Is there any special requirement to make him cast that one? I did try for hours... Good job for adding the chances of spells used by weapons! But to speak freely, I do miss the location row from the enemy tables. Haha, didn't know some details such as Remore also casts stop on the target :x WalkthrougH. http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/ff5/walkthrou...hp?chapter=1-19 Well, Berserkers are insane if you got with bothhand from the knight. I recall that in several playthroughs I was able to kill iron claw in two hits or even just a single one. Now I am not that sure - Do knives get bonus damage by agility? I read about a bug which isn't there anymore in the GBA release, which somehow did hinder such a formula except for the chicken's knife. Strat for blood sword: get 4x attack, a knight and the bone mail. He should be able to fight the dragons in world 2 - exdeath's castle solo, hehe. Every attack will hit, high def, 4x damage & regeneration. I really would like to see the possibility to rate for abilities, items, spells etc and to comment them (or at least listening a few strats to those) http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/ff5/weapons.php?type=Bow Don't the elemental bows have elemental properties? Not sure about if the Artemis or Yoichi bow also has another special attribute, has been a while. :X http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/ff5/weapons.php?type=Spear Dragon lance = 2x dmg vs dragons (noted somewhere else, I know) Wind spear, Holy Lance: No element? 2x dmg for jump http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/ff5/weapons.php?type=Staff Sure that the staff of light doesnt has the holy element inherited? http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/ff5/weapons.php?type=Boomerang AFAIK same dmg from back row (oh, now I am seeing it, I guess this goes for some other weapons as well) AFAIK Twin Lance also works with 4x attack, but not sure about it anymore. http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/ff5/weapons.php?type=Bell Rune chime has 6 elements in it's attack? sure about it? http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/ff5/weapons.php?type=Hammer Thor's hammer = ranged, afaik http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/ff5/weapons.php?type=Whip Fire lash: not fire elemental? Thanks, Bas, for the input. To mention a few of your points:
Level Trickers teach Level 2 Old when you Control them, and set Reflect to an enemy target to bounce Level 2 Old to your own party. Rune Chime has no elemental, but boosts several (all except Water) All knives except the Chicken Knife are affected by a faulty formula where one half of the damage formula (the Agility-based one) produces either 0 or 1 bonus damage to add to the other half. It's my conviction that Battle Power for Knives is balanced with this in mind, else Knives are stronger than Swords. This goes for Whips and Bows too, but not the Man-Eater. Fire Lash is non-elemental, it just casts Firaga 33% of the time On other issues, you're correct, and I've just compiled a list of similar things that will be addressed ASAP. Bah, Berserkers. If there's any fight you want total control over, it's that blasted Iron Claw fight where you want to learn Death Claw. If you want an easy win there, just kill the Sergeant before the dogs. -------------------- |

Unrelated to the series of suggestions currently going on (don't mind me!), but I wanted to say that this month's local quiz is dedicated entirely to FFV in honor of the new section launch. You'll find that all the answers lie within CoN's beautiful new pages - some a bit more exclusive than others
