Just finished writing this. It's a "monophonic" (and rather free) remix/arrangement of a song, meaning that it's theoretically possible to play this (with a few tiny changes) on an instrument that can only sound one note at a time, such as a flute, or one's voice. Well, turns out that the range of this arrangement is far too wide for any typical instrument to handle easily, so I ended up just scoring it for piano. Which is how I'd play it anyway, since I play the piano.

(I actually had the sound of a cello in mind when writing this, hence the double-stops.)

Can you recognize the song?

Hint:
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
It's the opening theme of a somewhat well-known animé series.

It's "Shining Days" from Mai-HiME, written by Masaaki Iizuki and sung by Minami Kuribayashi.
link to the sheet music (contains name of song)
