I've been a member here for some years, but rarely active. I've been a FF fan since I was given the first one when I was in the 4th grade. I haven't played every game in the series, but I've played several and VI always appealed to me for both both gameplay and nostalgia reasons.
I've played through it several times throughout the years. Because of somebody else wanting to experienced the game, I found out all the differences that the GBA version of this game has to offer... and I want to play through it. I picked it up and started playing it but, but I missed a few things that weren't the end of the world and ultimately ended up doing something that downright pissed me off. I've played through this game enough that it won't kill me to start over and here I am. I want you FFVI experts to help me through this game (especially with the GBA differences). So it begins, and I thank you for your time in advance. This post has been edited by Billdolfski on 4th January 2012 14:02 |

....sure? Are we waiting for you to encounter a problem and ask a question or are you just looking for tips/tricks and secrets? sadly. I don't know too much about the GBA version of the game. I only have anthologies.

Well, feel free to throw out anything... don't worry about spoilers. I've played through the game several times since it came out, but I manage to go long enough between each playthrough to forget a bunch of stuff, lol.
I just started today, and I'm at the entrance to Mt. Kolts. I know there is an Atlas Armlet in there that I can miss so I've already got that mental note taken care of. |

Well, for starters, the GBA version fixes a lot of the bugs of the SNES version. Notably among them: Evade actually works as intended (and Darkness by extension), and the Vanish/Immunity-Bypass glitch no longer works (although Vanish still makes effective abilities 100% accurate). Items and abilities have different translations, but it shouldn't be difficult to work out what spell is what.
Most of the additional content for the GBA version comes in the latter half of the game--the first half is essentially identical. Among the new additions: - Four new Espers: Gilgamesh, Leviathan, Cactuar, and Diabolos. (Spoiler includes how to obtain the Espers and their abilities.) Possible spoilers: highlight to view Gilgamesh is obtained by buying the Excalipoor at the Auction House for 500,000 gil and betting it in the Colosseum. Win or lose, you are immediately challenged by Gilgamesh. When summoned, Gilgamesh uses one of four abilities on all enemies: Excalipoor inflicts 1 damage, Excalibur inflicts Holy-elemental damage, Masamune inflicts non-elemental damage, and Enkidu inflicts very high non-elemental damage. Leviathan is found by travelling from South Figaro to Nikeah via the ferry. Leviathan uses Tidal Wave when summoned to inflict Water-elemental damage to all enemies. The Cactuar Esper is obtained after defeating Gigantaur in the Cactuar Desert. You need to fight enough Cactuars to initiate the battle. Cactuar attacks a random enemy with either 1000 Needles (inflicts 1000 damage) or 10,000 Needles? (inflicts 9999 damage). Diabolos is obtained at the end of the Dragons' Den after defeating the superboss Kaiser Dragon. Diabolos's Dark Messenger reduces all enemies' HP to 1/16th and inflicts Seizure. - Three new spells: Valor increases the power of each party member's next attack, Flood strikes all enemies with Water damage, and Gravija reduces the target's HP to 1/8th. - Two new bonus dungeons: the Dragons' Den, which is unlocked by defeating the eight dragons and contains new bosses, new enemies, and new items (including unique weapons for each character); and the Soul Shrine, which is unlocked by defeating the final boss of the Dragons' Den and contains a series of battles against past enemies. -------------------- Thank you for taking the time to read this sign. This sign loves you. |

Nice.
Well, I'm back in the WoR. I was mostly pissed because I guess I sold a Czarina Gown and I thought I'd be short a Minerva, which isn't necessary but would bug me to no end because I really like both Celes and Terra. As of recently, I'm also unemployed so I had the time to start over when the WoB doesn't take a crazy long time anyway. Well, I'll just have to get one from a Pug later. No worries. Thanks for the advice on the new Espers, as I'll want them. Right now I'm just working on all the WoR stuff trying to get my characters prepared for end game. Hell, I don't even have all of them yet. Here is a question I have... I've noticed a lot of the bugs being fixed like the Dark and Vanish/Doom... what about magic evade? How did that pan out? I'm assuming having max Magic Block isn't quite as game breaking as it was before? |

I'd like to add that stealing a Minerva from Pug/Tonberry is quite frustrating.

Quote (Billdolfski @ 4th January 2012 14:03) I'd like to add that stealing a Minerva from Pug/Tonberry is quite frustrating. From what I've found out, it's also impossible at my level. Yay. |

I'm not quite sure of the exact details, but I was told that I wouldn't have a chance to steal from the Tonberries unless I was level 50.
I'd say this is true because I certainly didn't have any success before then. I'm thinking Tonberries are lvl 99 and you have to a be a certain % of their level to even have a chance at stealing. I guess the percentage at that level was low, but it got the job done. |

From Terii Senshi's Algorithm's FAQ: http://www.gamefaqs.com/snes/554041-final-...-iii/faqs/13573
Quote 1. If the monster has no items, then you automatically fail to steal. 2. If your level is >= 205 (hacks only), you automatically steal. (Skip steps 3 through 7) 3. StealValue = Your Level + 50 - Monster's level 4. If StealValue < 0 then you fail to steal. 5. If StealValue >=128 then you automatically steal. (Skip steps 6 and 7) 6. If you have a Sneak Ring equipped: StealValue = StealValue * 2 7. If StealValue <= [0..99] then you fail to steal. 8. You have 1 in 8 chance of getting a rare item; otherwise, you get a common item. 9. If the monster doesn't have an item to steal in that slot, then you fail to steal; otherwise, you successfully steal that item. "Pugs" is level 99, so it looks like if your level is 49 or lower, your "StealValue" is going to be 0 or below and you will automatically fail to steal. I'm not sure what happens at 0, but it's likely a failure as well. -------------------- Hey, put the cellphone down for a while In the night there is something wild Can you hear it breathing?
