I was thinking about this character, and i have to say that this character, even though he isn't even evil,he is memorable,in fact,i think he is just as memorable as gilgamesh.
Ultros and gilgamesh are similar in that manner that they appear and have diabolical plans to mess things up,but they aren't necessarily pure evil like kefka or x death. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1S-Sm4olqbM&feature=related Grand finale http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuPfsbILflU&feature=related Ultros scene and dialogue, its just so epic and so funny. Don't you guys think so? its just so epic. I gotta say:i love nobuo uematsu's work on the music for this and how upbeat it is. Quote (Insegredious @ 17th December 2010 05:36) I really want Ultros to be in the next Dissidia. oh, that would be AWESOME. just that alone would make dissidia 2 EPIC. but i still don't know if they can. if logic comes into play, i would either pick Leo or Ghestal. (Ghestal is more appropriate) for the cosmos side, i would pick locke or celes as the obvious choice, but as my avatar stands, i WANT shadow in dissidia 2. -------------------- Come closer, FEEL my wrath. Ultros and Gilgamesh are the same "type" of character if you ask me - goofy, awesome villains who reappear from time to time. The difference being that Ultros has no relevance to the plot whatsoever, while Gilgamesh is working directly for the game's main antagonist, ExDeath.
I'm not sure how an octopus would play in a fighting game though. |

Make Ultros the secret big bad behind the next Dissidia game.

Ultros cracks me up, especially when he interacts with Relm. Double the hilarity.

I guess I'm a bit torn on Ultros. On one hand, I think that strictly comic characters are poor form. On the other hand, however, FFVI was a pretty heavy game; Ultros' bits of comic relief may be warranted. It'd certainly feel different without Ultros, but I'm not sure that removing him would make FFVI that much more bleak.
Regardless, I'd rather see games use more realistic methods of lightening the mood when necessary rather than simply pluging in a talking octopus. -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! I'm still not convinced that Final Fantasy VI isn't all a delusional fantasy that Kefka is having while dying from his botched Magitek Infusion, myself. I don't quite pick up the "bleak" mood of the game that others do, for some reason. The only time it's really bleak is an optional (you hope) cutscene, and at all other times, even though what's happened during the second half of the game has happened, the mood is silly and comical. Call it a tragicomedy if you will, but the whole thing just seems patently ridiculous to me,

FF6 has a lot of really sad moments, and the comedy is there to prevent the game from being too depressing all the time.
Possible spoilers: highlight to view Example:The event where terra talks about choices and asking what to do,is kind of sad if you think about it.I mean:She never had a moment in her life where she was free until that slave crown was removed. Possible spoilers: highlight to view What about:The espers being used and sucked dry of their life in the magitek factory? I wouldn't call it exactly a happy moment when both ifrit and shiva say their life force has been drained and they are weak. Possible spoilers: highlight to view What about:Doma castle being poisoned? That is also a pretty sad moment. Everybody was killed in the castle by being poisoned to death. Possible spoilers: highlight to view Then there was that scene also where terra talks about the espers being captured by emperor gestahl and her mother and maduin(her father) gets sucked through the gate and is unconcious and gets taken away and she gets enslaved and he is put into that tube.I wouldn't exactly call that happy either. The world of ruin is even more depressing. And there is also far less comedy i think in there. Examples: Possible spoilers: highlight to view Everything is in ruins Cid option of him dying Strago joins the tower of fanatics cult. Terra is protecting a village being attacked by punabas or whatever his name was Sabim is trying to help a village by holding it up after the light of judgement hit it. Cyan is hopeless because his family died, and he feels that by sending a love letter,he could give her hope in these bleak times. Gau is rejected by his father because he is a freak, and he accepts it. I think these are pretty depressing. The comedy is there to add some color so it isn't so depressing all the time and maybe also to do with adding character. Thats not to say that depressing moments can't be useful, but i'm sure the ones who scripted it had a very good reason for it.
