I'm replaying FF8 right now. I just finished disc one, after getting the Lionheart weapon of course. Then I thought I might start getting the materials for all the other ultimate weapons, and I was like, "I could go consult a guide! Oh...but Caves of Narshe doesn't have an FF8 guide and likely never will because the staff hates it."

I was sad. Discuss?

GameFAQs has some pretty good guides for FFVIII.
I can't really recommend going for ultimate weapons on the early disks since most just give small increases in accuracy and strength which are insignificant compared to what you get from junctioning and the materials can be gathered a lot quicker later in the game, but it can be fun to do just for the sake of doing it.

FF games completed: I (psp), II (psp), III (DS), IV (psp), V (GBA), VI (GBA), VII, VIII, IX, X, XI: Nations-Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, XII, XIII, XIV, XV.
Spin-offs: FFIV: Interlude & The After Years, Crisis Core: FFVII, X-2, XIII-2, Lightning Returns, Type-0 HD, Dissidia, Dissidia 012, and Tactics (original & WotL).
Enjoyed them all.

You need Lionheart to get Squall's ultimate moves, which are the most useful attacks during the final battle. But since you already got that, there's not much reason to get the other ultimates except for pure completion's sake.

I have to disagree-for most characters I prefer their second last weapon to their final weapon design wise.
Only exception for me is Selphie where I like her original weapon best.

As far as finding guides for non-FF games, I generally lean towards using a site rather than a boring FAQ doc, but sadly a lot of the sites out there either aren't all that much of an improvement, are dead or are plagued by obnoxious adds. The RPG Classics page is probably the one that most satisfies my game guide OCD.
