I've listened to my local hard rock station for damn near a decade and I can say this without exageration:

Metal is dead.

Sure there's the internet, file sharing, all that crap. If you look hard enough, if you dig deep enough, know where to look, blah blah blah, you might eventually come upon something worth listening to as if to search for some ancient artifacts of a long dead civilization. But that's not what metal is about. Metal is about being LOUD! You shouldn't have to search for metal! It should be right in your face, melting it off!

Thank GOD for Tim Schafer to remind us why this sh*t ROCKS! (Warning: Metal Overload Ahead)

I heard about this game when I caught sight of one of my friends game magazines last year. The cover caught my eye, but what really got my motor running was Tim Shafer. This guy can make f*cking games dude! So I checked inside and the article just made it sound more and more like pure unfiltered kick ass in a game disc. And it just keeps getting better...

Cast list I've heard made mention of so far:
Jack Black, Rob Halford, Lemmy Kilmister. Jesus Combi Christ!

And if anyone mentions Guitar Hero or Rock Band, I feel I should take a moment to say shut up! They may have brought rock in it's many forms back to the public eye, but that series had a j-pop character fer crying out loud! What we got here is pure liquid metal! And I can't wait!

This bombastic post brought to you by Judas Priest's "Screaming for Vengeance", which the official Brutal Legend website has playing on loop. Hopefully, they'll add more!

You had me at "Tim Schafer." The ex-LucasArts genius behind solid-gold **** like Psychonauts, Grim Fandango, and Full Throttle, making a game combining his own design elements and heavy metal? All over it.

I have to disagree that metal was ever dead or mainstream and whatever passed for mainstream metal was never very metal in the first place. Part of the charm was always having to dig around to find bands, go to those seedy lookin' bars to discover the acts you like and all that. It's part of the lifestyle experience.

That, however, doesn't stop this game from looking cool as hell and I'm excited to see it released. I love how Jack Black is included in this, it more or less guarantees some level of hilarity.

Any thing concerning metal has at least some aspect of hilarity. If you try to take it too seriously, it becomes very stupid (a good portion of Norwegian bands come to mind). Of course when you take it too lightly you get the aforementioned "pop metal," a good portion of which had much in common with a certain 5-piece new millineum vocal group.
So yeah, Schaffer + Lemmy = Unter den besten jemals.

Narratorway tried to destroy the metal.
But the metal had its way.

This looks awesome.

Okay, so now I'm excited. This looks to be a delve into the realm of good, old-fashioned, video-game fun!

And at the risk of a double post infringement, I thought I would inform anyone interested that it seems X-Play on G4 is going to have a segment on this game tomorrow (Monday the 11th) for anyone interested, I'm gonna set my DVR when I get home.
Edit
There was more substance just watching the Trailer than there was on X-Play. It was basically them chopping up the trailer between themselves going, "ZOMG!" and then having an interview with some guy that was like, "I like metal, and decided to make a game!"

I was very unimpressed. Sorry I let everyone know, but I fell into the hype... sad.gif

The game itself will still be freakin' epic, I mean the hype of the broadcast network saying something about it.

Lol... Birthday Rez!

**Arise Heavy Metal Demons of the Narshe Forum!**

So anywho: the DEMO for this game is out now on Xbox 360, and even as a demo, it's AMAZING! Very fun game, and I like the "solo" option to interact with special important points in the environment. Also, feels very Zelda-esque to run around with a bladed item (Axe in this case) and beat up on countless minions while using an instrument as you conduit for interaction with the world.

This will be good. biggrin.gif

This game is nuts! I didn't get a chance really delve into it full bore like I wanted (damb roomates wanting to use their tv...), but I got as far as my first 'stage battle' and it was freaking AWESOME! Everything leading up to it was just as sweet (especially the Guardian of Metal...nice! thumbup.gif )

Technically, I'm gonna admit the game feels just slightly unpolished. Controls are just this side of loose and controlling your troops gets confusing. The aforementioned 'stage battle' had me dying constantly cause I wasn't able to get a good bead on how the whole thing worked i.e. creating additional troops and such. Hit detection was also kinda iffy as with so much going on, I wouldn't know I was hurt until I was dying.

But who gives a shit? The story is awesome, the characters hilarious, the environment wicked, and the music is every kind of kick ass! This game rocks!

OK, we get it, but it seems like every time you come back, every six months ago, we go through when it is and when it is not appropriate to throw out f-bombs around here, yeesh. -R51

I procured myself a copy of the game as well. And I'm as far as the second stage battle, and if you thought the first was good... the second... is... OFF... THE... HOOK!

The weirdest thing about it is that I am not a big metal fan, although I'm typically accepting of other kinds of music, but I was at work all day humming Judas Priest.

THAT makes for an interesting explanation when people ask you what you're singing to yourself! tongue.gif

I just returned this game to the video store yesterday, and it's definitely epic. In two days, I managed to plow through the entire storyline (I didn't really bother with the side missions or any of the collection, as I only had the game for three days), and I'll just say that after that first stage battle, almost all storyline battles are stage battles. Controlling troops becomes easier - just remember to look around the area of the second Stage Battle for the Recall Flag solo, which, when played, sets a rally point that all new troops automatically travel to.

I plan on getting my own copy of the game. Once I have it, would anyone here be interested in playing it online? (Note, I'll be getting the PS3 version)

I played the demo for this game, and got to say that this has to be one of the coolest games.

Jack black does the voice acting and he is a pretty cool guy who fits the role very well.

If only there was a sequel....Then The metal gods would not punish us with this lame stuff we listen to everyday. Seriously though. Amazing game, terrific storyling and side-missions.

And leave it to Jack Black to bring in the comedy to this game. Nothing says win like a fierce "DECAPITATION!!!!"

Aww yeah I got this game when I got my 360 last winter. Such an awesome concept, all the famous musician cameos made me happy in the pants. I didn't like how it turned into a strategy game though. I was more interested in it when it appeared to be a straight up brawler kind of game.

Not to go off-topic, but metal never died; it just drifted away from the mainstream and became mostly an underground thing (it still is to this day and I prefer it like this).

Even when grunge took over the radio charts we still had many up-and-coming death/black/groove metal bands producing memorable albums. I'm more into the melodic stuff but metal never died at all.

You just have to dig through the underground scene (not only restricted to just bands from one region) for some of the finest cult status metal bands.

Anyway, I've never played this game (I personally just don't care for Jack Black), but I'm glad that the soundtrack in this game gave people access to songs from completely underground metal bands like Cloven Hoof, Riot, Budgie, Manowar, and Running Wild.
