So we have all played and talked about FF6 through and through...

But what about the game cover? Why is Mog on it? What is the shadow and what is that blade?

What do you think?

I think Moogles are symbolic of the FF series, and the shadow and purple background is to add the fantasy feel. As for the blade, its a RPG thing I guess. I was a little upset though, its the most boring of FF covers and the most exciting of games

Well, no. FF2us had a more boring cover. It just had the title with a pure red background.

Hmm, while we're at it, I wonder where my box went... I still have the map and instruction book, but I hope I didn't throw out the box... Either way, I'm not planning to sell it!

I think the shadow guy is supposed to be Kefka or something. Mog is there because Mog is cool, and he's the perfect mascot for this game.

I think they put Mog on the cover because moogles are popular and cute, and because Mog is obviously not a main character.

Personally, I like the Japanese box art, especially the logos.

You're right, the cover is disappointing, especially considering the talent of the game's character artist, Yoshitaka Amano!

I definitely would like to see something with more of the characters on it like the instruction booklet or the player's guide...

Didn't the manual on the US SNES cart use the same art as on the cart label and the box?

The Anthologies player's guide (as well as the Nintendo Power version of the SNES guide) used Amano art.

It's been a few years, but I distinctly remember seeing Amano art in the instruction booklet that I got with the game. They had sort of a "character intro" section and I remember thinking how beautiful Celes was, hehe.

And the Nintendo Power Players Guide is the player's guide I had in mind... it was chock full of Amano art.

I remember the mysticism I felt when I saw that box for the first time. I was like what is this furry devil creature on the front(it appeared he had demon wings). If you remember commerials at the time focused on mog too...I definately felt he would be a more prominate character in the game. However, upon playing the game it was easy to forget that nonsense and still enjoy it.

Ah, mea culpa. Yes, inside the instruction book there was Amano art. I thought you meant the cover of the instruction book.

The only commercial I remember (vaguely) was one with Mog sitting behind a desk or something and killing each monster who came into the room with lightning attacks. If I recall correctly, the commercial was done in a claymation style or something close to it. It was pretty humorous.

I also clearly remember other advertisments for the game (all starring Mog) in comic books 'n stuff that had him holding his little dagger while being surrounded by gigantic monsters with the line "It doesn't seem fair, does it?" under the picture. Then, another with the same monsters reduced to piles of dust with Mog still standing there saying "Who says life is fair?"

I think one of my first posts was on this topic.... I'm not even going to try and find it. You'll notice that that big shadow is actually the shadow of a monster; you can make out it's claws and horns, if I remember correctly. It seems that mog is starring staight up at it, his relaxed posture (resting on his sword) looks very proud and definant to me. Very fitting for his personality, says I.

the one thing i dont get about the cover art though is i dont get why he has a sword and not a lance if i do recall right that is the only weapon mog can equip. i havent found a sword for him. and i also and wondering if that sword is the illuma(sp?) or just some random sword.

Its probably just a random sword, and no, Mog cannot equip any sword that I'm aware of. He just has spears and lances.

I'd say the US cover is more commercially saleable to people who don't know much about FF (despite the moogle), whereas the Amano cover was probably intended raise eyebrows over an FF being so futuristic-looking and produce intrigue. Oooo.... intrigue... cool.gif

I agree with sherick cause the moogles( am I spelling it right?) are in almost all ff games even in some other games.
