Ok, here's a topic inspired by the worst game you've ever played topic.

What games were you either not able to complete or unable to force yourself to keep playing?

In Xenogears I have become helplessly stuck. There's a major boss that I am unable to beat after several tries, and there is no possibility of leveling up my characters. I've come to consider the situation helpless.

I was unable to force myself to keep playing a little game called Champions of Norath. My brother bought it for something like $5 and immediately set to playing it like crazy. He enlisted me for a while to go multiplayer on it with him, but it has one of the most horrendously weak plots I've ever seen in a videogame. Plus it was almost identical to Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance, which I'd played through during the 7th grade.

I couldn't finish Xenogears either. I've probably left more games unfinished than finished. From the CoN list I've not completed FFT or FFV, but probably made it over half-way. It's not that they're bad games, they're just quite hard for me to get into. Maybe I'm just really thick!

Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga for the GBA. I don't know why I stopped playing it either really, I was having quite a bit of fun with it.

I hated Final Fantasy 3...I took two years to finish it.

Two SNES games that immediately came to mind, but for different reasons:

Batman Forever. This is a really, really terrible game. Maybe second to Lagoon for worst game ever. The controls are the stiffest thing ever. Seriously. You need to use Up + Select to use the grappling hook to shoot at a gap in the ceiling that can't be seen. That's not in the instruction booklet or Nintendo Power. How were we supposed to play this game back in the day? Answer: you can't. You get to the third screen and then throw the game away. I have never gotten past the third level. It is absolutely monstrous and if the timer runs out, it is game over. Literal game over. All lives are lost at once and you go back to the title screen. No thanks.

Actraiser 2. The sequel to what might be my favorite platformer ever. However, this game was so difficult that I could not even come close to finishing. On my latest attempt, I got to the point on hard difficulty where the only levels I had left to beat were the ones with the Gargoyle miniboss, with the exception of Gratis which I somehow beat. That miniboss is really nasty. Even on the easy difficulties he still crushes. I can't get past those two levels to save my life, so I am yet to complete this game.

I'm currently stuck on that blue magic bastard in FFV and haven't really gone back to clean house.

I haven't gotten around to finishing FFVI yet, for some reason. Just need to do it, I guess.

I got stuck at Ultamecia in FFVIII and didn't get back to it for a while, but started it a bit ago. Haven't finished even if I owned it for ages.

I really didn't like what I started with in FFII and I'm still shying away from it...

FFIII I'm stuck on the final boss and still need to power level to be able to take her on...

I've owned Baldur's Gate II for years and have yet to finish it. Just keep getting to various points then move on to play something else for a good while... Maybe I will... Eventually... It's just so... involving sometimes.

All are good games, but I've just gotten to points where I require myself to do some serious levelling or just lost momentary interest and can't force myself onwards for the time being. It's strange, but true... OH! Just remembered! I never finished Legend of Dragoon! I got to some near final boss and was stuck and never went back to finish it after all these years... Man... I should do that... Or start the game over or something... It was a surprisingly good game...

Also remembered, X-Com Apocalypse. Always loved that game, but then I get to a certain point when the aliens start to hose me and just never get around to getting back into it and instead start a new save and get to that same point... Bleh... I've a lot of unfinished biz, man.

FFVIII

Not necessarily a *bad* game imo, but there are many much better games, and I'd rather play them.

FF12,

I booted it up and 10 minutes later I was contemplating breaking the disk. (thankfully I didn't because it was a rental)

*I don't mean to offend but that's just my opinion I'm aware lots of people like it but I just didn't enjoy it*

I have this game on the SNES called Battleship, based on (you guessed it) the boardgame. I never finished it. I sort of liked it, but there was one level that I didn't know what to do or how to do it. So I gave up and never tried it. But it was fun. *Of course, I was quite a bit younger when I last played it, or even looked at it*

Another was Star Wars: Return of the Jedi on the SNES. I'm not a good gamer anyways, but I found that game to be really hard for some reason. I seriously don't even remember getting past the second level.

I got stuck at Omega Weapon in FFVIII and eventually the data on my memory card got corrupted so I never went back to play through it. Similar situation with tactics, I got stuck on some fight at the end of chapter 2 and haven't picked it up since then. I probably have lost any knowledge I had of that game and wouldn't even know where to start if I picked it back up again though. I also have yet to beat FFXII but I only just got to the final dungeon like two months ago, so that one will probably get knocked out soon.

I got stuck on the final boss of Metroid Prime 2 and after a few months lost the disk, I haven't played it since then but this is definitely one I want to finish soon.

I never beat Gruntilda in the first BK because she was way too hard, but back in the day my mom would play a lot of my n64 games so I watched her beat the game.

The campaigns in pretty much any RTS are a given, I was always to crummy at those games to get anywhere (SC, WCIII, etc.)

This is getting to be a lot of writing, I'm gonna put the rest in a list from here on:
.hack//mutation
Bomberman 64
Doom 3
Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation (couldn't even beat the training level)
Klonoa 1
Airblade
Morrowind (Main Quest)
Star Ocean 3
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
Soul Calibur 3
Viewtiful Joe 2
Warioworld
Bioshock
Xenosaga
Psychonauts
Eternal Darkness
Loads more, I'm sure

Most of those games I got the majority of the way through, and most were really good games. About the time that I reach the final boss/challenge for games is when they're beginning to strain on my patience so unless it's a really fun or interesting fight I tend to get annoyed with them really quickly, which is why I give up on the final boss of so many games.

FFVIII.

I haven't tried playing that again, and it's been nearly 8 years now, but I vaguely remember a boss on the last disc that you had to fight while the girl (Rinoa?) was strapped to her, and you had to beat the boss without killing the girl in the process. Didn't get farther than that.

Like the first two posters, I could not finish Xenogears. It came highly recommended by a friend and I'd heard it was a classic RPG, but the bad camera angles, repetitive fighting and dragged out dialogue kept me from ever finishing it. What I saw of the story was interesting and seemed to be building towards a promising resolution, but I didn't have the patience for the dialogue boxes that you could NOT speed up or skip, and the gameplay got so repetitive it was boring.

FFVIII... just can't push myself to doing it.
VII as well. I love the game, but for some reason when I reach the fourth disk I just always forget to finish it.

And pretty much any first person shooter I've ever tried. Because I suck XD

I couldn't finish FFVIII, but that was because i had a ps2 and no ps1 memory card. Even after I borrowed one, i just couldn't finish it. But, I do hope to finish it someday.

I couldn't make it through Bioshock. I'm not a survival horror fan, so I just couldn't put myself through it. But, I do have to say that from what I played it is a well-made game.

Starcraft
Odium
Populous

these are the first that come to mind.
Starcraft because Blizzards stratagies involve you having to be everywhere at once

Populous(See Starcraft)

Odium because it was really hard yet really fun yet ammo was VERY hard to come by

- FF3 (I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE AHRIMAN! And Echidna too)

- FF10 (See more natus)

- FF2 (Yawn)

- Leisure Suit Larry 7 (it keeps crashing!)

- Legend of Dragoon (my stupid sis broke my disc)

And MMOs. I never managed to finish a single MMO.

Chrono Cross literally made me fall asleep every time I tried to play it, so that went by the wayside pretty quickly.

For some reason I got the idea in my head that I wanted to play Hydlide, and...well, if you've ever played it you'll know why that idea went south in a hurry.

Final Fantasy XII, oooh I hate that giant crystal area!

And sad to say I could never beat Super Macho Man in Punchout!!! cry.gif

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the NES. That game was infuriating. I'd usually die on the same jump in the sewers, over and over again.

I even re-purchased the game not too long ago, almost 20 years later, and still can't beat it!

At least it inspired my favorite Angry Nintendo Nerd episode.

I hated Final Fantasy V, and I never could bring myself to finish the SNES version of Aladin. I played the Sega Genesis version first. You get a sword on it and it's so much fun. On the SNES version you only get apples and the ability to jump on people. It's like Mario with terrible physics and controls. I tried it a few times, but I never could put in the time required to beat it.

Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: I started this game years ago and got to a level where you had to chase a wolf robot guy through a factory. It got pretty annoying and I didn't like the game enough to continue. I think I still have it somewhere.

FF games completed: I (psp), II (psp), III (DS), IV (psp), V (GBA), VI (GBA), VII, VIII, IX, X, XI: Nations-Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, XII, XIII, XIV, XV.

Ninja gaiden was always a pain. I don't know about anyone else but even on the easy difficulties I was dying all over the place.

I've got a BIG bunch of games I haven't finished and that I probably won't in a lot of time. A few examples are FFX (started playing it right before Christmas, when I got a 360 and a lot more games...), Sonic Chronicles: The dark brotherhood (had a lot of other games at the time, and it was kinda boring), No More Heroes (again, time, other games to play etc), and the list goes on and on...
