Is it just me, or does The World Ends With You seem to give of some very Solipsistic leanings?
I mean, just one look at the title of the game tells you this flat out. What are your thoughts on this? -------------------- Oops! Had the silly thing in reverse.^_^" "I'm afraid the mouse is SMACK...dab in the middle of enemy territory." ~Kefka -- Dissidia Final Fantasy |

Given that the game and you and this website cannot be confirmed to exist, I'd say no. We can't even prove Solipsism exists.
In all seriousness if you have more than the title (which isn't the original title) to go on, fire away, but right now my thoughts are it probably does have some elements of it but I doubt the main cut and thrust of the game was to deliberately follow the philosophy. It might have been intended to include elements of it perhaps. I haven't played the game, but the title does seem to imply that one views the world from subjective experiences. Once you end, you no longer perceive the world, and thus to you everything ends.

Quote (BlitzSage @ 2nd July 2011 19:44) I haven't played the game, but the title does seem to imply that one views the world from subjective experiences. Once you end, you no longer perceive the world, and thus to you everything ends. The actual in-game meaning is less deep and more cliche'd than that. Quote (Sanae Hanekoma) Listen up, Phones. The world ends with you. If you want to enjoy life, expand your world. You gotta push your horizons out as far as they'll go. In other words, your "world" expands by interacting with others and forging friendships. ("Phones" is his nickname for the game's jerkass protagonist, who always wears headphones. Think Squall, but MUCH more interesting.) Game's still great, though. But regarding the solipsism topic, I'd actually have to disagree. Going through all the secret reports gives the game a much more...Lovecraftian, dare I say existentialist, feel to it. "The most merciful thing in the world...is the inability of the human mind of correlate all its contents" indeed. Wow!
So much input. Thank all of you so much for your opinions. It's so great to talk amongst other Square-Enix fans without everyone getting bent out of shape. ![]() -------------------- Oops!
