Earlier today I was just listening to some mp3's on itunes of all my favorite games and found some songs that truly struck that nostalgic chord and brought me back to my child hood. I thought it might be fun to ask you guys to share a song or theme which is meaningful/nostalgic to you from your favorite games. You can share more than one but let's not spam the thread. If you can hyper link us to the song on youtube or even to a midi file then we can all listen
![]() For me the ending theme of Secret of Mana invokes a lot of emotion and nostolgia. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oaKIFlNbAk As does Saria's Song ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVlqk9yZf2c So happy but as any who knows anything about skull kids and wandering in the lost woods would know it's almost too happy. Brings me back to when I would rush home from middle school and escape to the Hyrule fields. |

For me it's Aeris' Theme at number one. Not only does it remind me of the young days playing FFVII, and of course THAT bit, watching the white materia bouncing on the marble in time with the music, but it also encapsulates everything I love about the game. All the spirituality and power comes through in the song so if I'm feeling like I want to relive all the feelings then I just listen to the song. It's easier than playing the game through again, although that's not such a bad thing I suppose!
Another one is Lebedev's Airfield from Deus Ex. Again, this encapsulates the whole game for me. It comes in at a point in the game when you're starting to unravel pieces of the overall mystery. People are changing and I was feeling a lot more unsure about what exactly was going on in the game. Listening to it again makes me think about the sadness of having to sacrifice a lot for ideals and principles. Lastly, on a happier note, Go Down from Unreal Tournament. I used to live in the countryside and there was no online games to be played. So in Unreal Tournament I was playing the game through at a difficulty that took a lot to beat each level, so when I got to the end it meant a lot! The song is in earlier levels, but I really noticed it in the last level, fighting Xan on a small spaceship, both inside and out, going at warpspeed. When I was younger this was even cooler than jumping off an asteroid into the Earth in an earlier level. Whenever I hear it I remember his quotes: "I am the Alpha and Omega". These are just three, and I have bags more to share, but you're right spamming it probably isn't a good idea. These three are probably the most memorable for me. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

I won't post the squaresoft stuph cause they're just too numerous to mention, but a couple that have always scratched my itch from back in the day are Plok's main theme and Andy's Asteroids from Earthworm Jim.

I'll also avoid Square stuff. Too much to mention.
Street Fighter Alpha 2. One of my old Street Fighter buddies used Sakura a lot. Too damn much. She has a nice theme, though. Fighting games have always been my favorite kind of multiplayer. Mega Man X. I don't even want to think of how many times I've played this game. Tristram. Not much else to say. Still a magnificent moody, atmospheric game song, 15 years after the fact. -------------------- |

Ah, Earthworm Jim! That game was so freaking awesome. "Aw riggerfrackinroginoggin!" was one of my favorite phrases when I was a kid.
And I gotta add Epona's Song from OOT. One of those songs that just sticks with you. Stuff that really makes me nostalgic are themes like Bubble Bobble's Secret Ending Song, a game which I used to play for hours with my brothers. This post has been edited by finalalias on 16th June 2011 01:29 |

Quote (laszlow @ 15th June 2011 19:30) Tristram. Not much else to say. Still a magnificent moody, atmospheric game song, 15 years after the fact. Absolute full agreement with Tristram theme. That song is so atmospheric and reeks of pure unadulterated nostalgia for me. And I can't not think of all the character's greetings when you talk to them in town. Sonic 2: Chemical Plant Zone. Just too amazing, always takes me back to lazy summer days. Illusion of Gaia: Itory Village So serene, a unique game that got me fascinated with history. UN Squadron - Canyon Stage Any song from this game really, they were all so wonderfully enthralling and I could never keep them out of my head as a kid, probably due to the sheer time I spent playing this game. Every damn song from the 7th Saga. These all brought out a lot of happiness but a ton of anger while playing. I broke both of my SNES paddles to this freaking game, but could never stop playing because I *had* to beat it. Last but not least....Dragon Warrior 1: Overworld Theme. I say this with no embellishment, this is the earliest memory of my life that I have: Watching my dad trudging through the overworld and setting me down the path of video games and RPGs for all of my life. |

Quote (Phunbaba @ 15th June 2011 12:36) For me the ending theme of Secret of Mana invokes a lot of emotion and nostolgia. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oaKIFlNbAk That one's near the top of my list, as well. For nostalgia, only the Sleeping theme and, perhaps, the Pure Land theme beat it. Really, though, I could list half (or more!) of Secret of Mana's soundtrack, and nothing else. There may be better game soundtracks out there, but, for me, none comes even close to that of SoM on a nostalgic level. -------------------- |

A couple memorable ones come to mind:
F-Zero - Mute City - just simply badass, even today. I know some people like Big Blue's dynamicness, but this was always the "advance towards the goal" music for me. F-Zero's music is one of the SNES' defining highlights for me, and I still probably listen through a few times each week. Wild Arms 3 - Scenery Called Everyday - this has a little nostalgia for RPGs in general, despite not even being a decade old, but most of it just comes from growing up watching tons of westerns. Ever since it's inception, I always think back to this theme and just how effortlessly great it is...whistles, clip-claps mimicking an approaching horse, light guitar in the background. It's like stepping back a century, man. ![]() ![]() ![]() -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

Mega Man X3's two ending themes (here and here) bring back memories of me completing this game in my dorm room years after first starting it.
And who doesn't remember this? Yep. The classic Pokémon RBY intro. Speaking of Pokémon, the Olivine/Violet City theme from GSC will forever remind me of playing GSC after school on sunny afternoons in Florida. Well, I'll name several series, generally speaking.
No order here. Zelda, Donkey Kong Country, Mega Man, Super Mario, METROID, Kirby, FF, Monster Hunter, Pokemon, and many many more. Basically every single Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, Kirby, and DKC song. Here's one SUPER SPECIFIC song as an example. Kirby 64's ZERO TWO. |
