Title about sums it, that yellow bellied son of gun. Get it? it's funny because I got the YLOD. Anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do? I really, and I stress really, don't want to pay $150 to lose years worth of gaming. Anyone know good, reliable, 3rd party repairs? Or reliable how to do it yourself guides? (granted I want to avoid this, I don't trust myself. But hey, its not like there's anything to lose, worse come to worse I'll salvage my game disk and finally have a reason to replay all my games. Woo hoo.) Anything would be appreciated. Anything. If nothing works, I'll give my case to that lawfirm looking into the class action lawsuit.

What model is it? I fixed my 40GB one, but there's a part of the fix that my friend and I figure we did slightly wrong.
It worked for a day then I had a foolhardy black ops marathon session and killed it again. The Gods of gaming do not look kindly upon such action apparently. -------------------- www.youtube.com/blinje The victor sacrificed the vanquished to the heavens |

I had it happen to me back in Sept '10. After ringing Sony to discover their ripoff 'replacement' service, I looked around, and found these guys:
PS Pros Cost me £100 for repairs and a 2yr warranty. They picked it up, and they sent in back to me, all within 1 working week. My console is still working to this date, and I lost no data whatsoever. The only downside is that I think they perform some 'tweaks' designed to prevent the recurrence of the YLOD. One of them involves the fan settings, and in the past month or two my PS3 has started to sound like a jet taking off after about 10mins. It's extremely loud. But, I've rung them back up and told them this, and they're gonna take it back in to sort out the volume issues, all under the warranty I purchased. FYI, I'm in the UK - Their workshop is in London, and I think they do a drop in while-you-wait service too. I believe they have a sister company based in the US as well... P.S. My console is one of the 'original' 60GB models. This post has been edited by Stiltzkin on 12th June 2011 10:06 -------------------- We apologise for the inconvenience |

I have the 60GB as well. Thanks Stiltzkin, I'll look into the US sister company of PS pros, or something else, otherwise I just need to fix it well enough to let me back up my memory. So then, just in case, what method did you use to fix it Blinge, or is there somewhere to find the steps/materials?

l had that problem right after l got mine. l found a repairman on craigslist and haven't had any problems since. set me back ninety dollars, but it was cheaper than my other options. Help is out there if you look hard enough, so good luck.

The process is called Reflow, Doc.
Basically it involves using a heat gun to blast certain parts of the Ps3's motherboard to get the connections inside re-attached. Sounds like pretty risky business eh? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U70SgRDVcBo -------------------- www.youtube.com/blinje The victor sacrificed the vanquished to the heavens |

I guess they've just had a lot of practice/got better equipment for performing it with. -------------------- We apologise for the inconvenience |

If you've got the cash to spare it's probably worth listening to this guy ^
