DISCLAIMER: none of these are real and I apologize if I unfairly got your hopes up.

So the question is, which one of these do you WISH was a real thing? I didn't put down Final Fantasy XV or Dragon Quest XI because, well, I'm pretty sure those will still happen.

A sequel to Einhänder.

Or a prequel. Which might fit better with the plot.

I voted for a third Chrono title. Both previous titles had an incredibly neat atmosphere, and I think the multi-character attacks aspect of the battle system could really be made neat on a modern console. I think that going with a Chrono revival would give Squenix the opportunity to produce a big-name RPG with a more lighthearted feel, something everyone wants sometimes and that the edgier FF series isn't quite suited to deliver.

It isn't an option in this poll, but I would equally be thrilled to see a Vagrant Story sequel. The game ended rather suggestively, clearly leaving things open for a sequel of some sort. And I want it. So. Hard. It's got puzzles, lots of fun puzzles. And a great art style. Fantastic storytelling. And weapon customization? U ain't never SEEN weapon customization like dis here weapon customization. I think, with those four elements, a sequel could be quite successful in a market where these elements are fairly popular, given what I've seen in the indie game market.

Regardless, I really think a revival of one of these series/titles could be rather financially successful for Squenix by bringing something fresh to the table. Once upon a time, Square/Enix made/produced each of these games in addition to their flagship titles. I believe that the RPG market was healthier for it, as it allowed for new blood and new ideas to circulate. Bringing back VS or Chrono could be the spark needed for the birth of something new.

I haven't felt the pleasures of well executed co-op in an RPG since the first Secret of Mana..

I feel almost obligated to respond with their actual vaporware, an English release of Type-0 and Versus. smile.gif

I would go with another FFT. Not sure how they could do it plotwise, but I'd like to see them try.

I voted for a FFVII HD remake, albeit reluctantly. FFVII was my first proper RPG, and it remains my most beloved and replayed one, as cliché as that may be.

However, my concern is that if they did remake it, they would just give it the lifeless FFXIII-type treatment: gorgeous zones, great music production, good battle mechanics, lifeless NPCs (no personality), and crappy towns. One of the best things about FFVII for me is the towns: the houses look detailed, lamps on nightstands even glow like there's a candle in them, and best of all, you can actually go into the houses, talk to people, buy stuff from stores. And the NPCs have personality... You can go up to the counter in a store and buy stuff, or you can go behind the counter right up to the store NPC and they'll say "You want me?" It's details like that which make the game so alluring to me. Not to mention you can revisit practically any town or location, with some exceptions, to your heart's content. Those things are all gone from the more recent titles. /sigh

I've been clamoring for a true sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics ever since I finished it (and, actually, long before I'd actually finished it; I'm too lazy to go back and edit this comment though).

I know this sounds terrible, but I voted something else, with the idea of "a swift death" in mind.

I know this is a primarily square related forum, but when I was reading all those options (including the FFVI HD remake, which I admit caught my attention, and imagination for a moment), I just thought:

No thanks. That'll be all Square. You're dismissed.

Personally, I just haven't been excited for anything Square has done since they made the GBA remakes of the SNES games. And from the little I've played that couldn't hold my interest, I don't feel I'm missing much.

I don't expect anyone to agree, mind you, this is just according to my own taste.

Edit: I admit this caught my attention too--

That said, I was immediately depressed by the fear of it being a Squarenix Diablo clone. It'd be neat with a flawless execution, but recent years have led me not to expect that from the company sleep.gif .

I definitely voted for the Seiken Densetsu remake or sequel done appropriately. If they could finally get their act together with this series, and as mentioned, done with proper multiplayer, it would be incredible., Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time are the way the series should have gone, I feel.

I also would love the remake of FFVII. I don't think we'd need to fret of them redoing the whole engine to make it fit into FFXIII's style. I'd like it just fine if they simply remastered the background and upgraded the sprites. It would loke fantastic.

That being said, seeing Midgar a la FFXII grandeur would be incredible.

Lastly, a new Chrono entry would be amazing!

Another idea of mine:

A new flagship series for the company. Unless they can make the Final Fantasy series bring up mental images of fantasy worlds chock full of lore, and thus justify the "agedness" of an installment number as high as 15 or higher, it seems they might as well call it Endless Fantasy. But that doesn't have as nice of a ring to it, admittedly.

Out of those... Only FFVI HD caught my attention. SE has made so much uninteresting stuff recently, though. The best of their recent games that I've played was made by their western studio (Deus Ex:HR)...

I am tempted to vote "other" and ask for a FF or just a general RPG more like the old games because I'm a sucker for grinding and unforgiving stuff, but I don't know...

They've tried to do that a couple of times. Lords of Arcana didn't work out, but Lord of Vermillion has done extremely well for them. In recent days, even moreso than working on Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts, Square-Enix has thrived as a producer for third-party titles like Hitman, Sleeping Dogs, and Deus Ex. They do try making new IPs on occasion, but it's way riskier than buying up existing ones and producing new sequels.
