I didn't really think this was.. I don't know.. 'productive' enough for the FFV section. Also, a bit random and pointless. But eh. Now actually on topic! Did anybody else play Dissidia, meet Bartz, and say: "This scrawny child is definitely not the same guy from FFV."?

I actually thought the opposite. I loved his portrayal in Dissidia, and he had, IMO, the best performances by his voice actor in the entire cast, rivaling Dave Wittenberg's Kefka.
Yes, I DID just say I preferred Jason Spisak's performance over Christopher Sabat's (a.k.a. Garland, and Vegeta & Piccolo from DBZ) and Kathleen McInerney's (a.k.a. Cosmos, and the original voice of Ash from Pokemon). WHAT OF IT!?
Nah, just kidding.
Seriously, though - if anything Spizak's performance's sounded realistic, and not annoying - unlike, say, Doug Erholtz's Squall.

I liked Bartz's portrayal in Dissidia, too. He seemed like the same lighthearted character I came to know and love in FF5, to me. biggrin.gif

Personally, Bartz in Dissidia irritates me to no end. I'm afraid the only redeeming feature, in my opinion, is the fact that he can equip anything. Everything else about him - the voice, the personality, the abilities - drive me up the wall.

For the record, I'm not saying he's not a good character or that his voice actor didn't do a good job. I'm just saying I can't stand him. =P Also, to specifically answer the question posed in the original post, I had exactly that reaction when I saw him for the first time.

well as for the same Bartz we love in the old game, I think tis game kinda took him from that timeline, and shrunk him back a few years. The same could be said with a large portion of them, mainly Terra, Tidus, and Zidane.

However. Voice for Bartz, yeah I hope in the DS version if they do voices, they keep his voice. Playing as Bartz is fun and the equipment is a nice touch, but he was too random for me

It's weird. I mean, I think everything fit for the character they were trying to portray, and i loved the equipment, but I just didn't think the portrayal matched up to FFV. Like tesco said, it's like they just made him a bit younger. Just, too much for me.

True. He's supposed to be 20. According to the unwritten rules of JRPG characterization, he should act like his life's half over.

To be fair, Square Enix DID have 24 characters to include (11 each for Cosmos and Chaos, plus the gods themselves). The biggest criticism of the Dissidia games is the crappy story, and I feel that the characterizations are part of that - each character is stripped down to his or her bare essentials:

Squall: "I'm bored these people are annoying I don't need anyone helping me my voice is unnecessarily nasally oh look it's Ultimecia time to be badass"
Kuja: "Showbusiness analogies and sayings and wanting to capture Zidane"
Exdeath: "Void Void Void Void Void Void Void Void Void Void Void Void Void Void Void Void Void Void..."

From that point of view, I can totally see where Delinquent and everyone are coming from.
