^ Well, perhaps that's an idea for the opening poster to consider: Do you want to play them to get the story, or to get a sense of what they did to the RPG genre, or to get how they affected the series's development, or what?

Edit: Ahh, cripes, pagetopper. Previous post said something about FFIV DS not showing how much the FFIV game affected the direction and development of the series, as much as FFIV (original hardtype) or FFIV GBA.

Well Glenn, the answer is more or less in the order that you stated; with both story and gameplay though.

Seeing and wanting to play games within the grander narrative of the RPG genre is a fine thing, no doubt about it. However, I've played the SNES era versions of both V and VI already, which has led to my choice of the DS version of IV. Figured I'd seen enough FF from that era to miss out on the obviously crucial developments that the original FFIV brought with it.

Will that do? happy.gif

If you do FFIV, I'd suggest the new PSP release. I actually prefer it to the 3D graphics of the DS. The graphics are amazing with lots of detail for 2D and the visual effects, like magic spells ect, are just as good, if not better than the DS.
