FFVI Glitch

Hello all,

Thank you for taking the time to look at a new guy's question here.

I'm just now getting around to finishing FFVI (technically FFIII SNES), and in my preparations for Kefka's Tower, I've been spending some time in the Coliseum.

I wagered my one and only Gem Box, defeated the Sr.Behemoth, and won an Economizer! Huzzah! I thus saved my game.

I then tried to equip Terra with both (double-cast Ultima at 1 mp from her sounded like a good bet for the tower).

My Gem Box is no longer in my inventory. It's gone. Very gone. And I didn't notice this until after I saved . . . Sr.Behemoth ate it, I guess . . .

Is there a known glitch that would cause this? This did not happen with any of the other items I wagered (e.g. Moogle Charm for Charm Bangle). I need to know in case I become bitter enough to restart my file from scratch.

Again, thank you all for your time.

You are new to the game so I can see how that happened. Whatever you wager gets replaced by what you win. If you want the Gem Box back then just wager the economizer and get it back. You can always get the Economizer from a select couple of enemies...pretty sure the Gem Box is a little harder. Been awhile so someone may need to verify this for me. By all means...don't erase that file. Just rewager....

Hey, Stormwarden and fxstc08. Welcome to the forum!

Here is the deal with the coliseum: fxstc08 is correct that you don't get your wager back. If you lose the coliseum fight, you get nothing (and might want to reset depending on what it was you wagered). If you win the coliseum fight, you get whatever the prize is, but you still don't get your wager back. Plenty of prizes are simply not as good as the thing you wager to get them. If Chupon sneezes you out of the battle, or something else ends the battle so that you neither win nor lose, then you DO keep your wager. This was a source of confusion for me too because most of the battles I fought were against Chupon.

The bad news is that you can't get bet an Economizer to get your Gem Box back. You can't bet anything to get a Gem Box. You had the only one in the game. That genuinely sucks. I'm sorry if this causes you to start over.

It's not too hard to find other things that can be wagered for Economizers, and so you can get several. Wagering an Economizer won't get you a Gem Box, but you will get a Dragon Horn. If you don't have a Dragon Horn, maybe you should get one. They can be a lot of fun on Mog or Edgar!

And I have no idea why you still have the Moogle Charm if you wagered it. Good thing, though.

Hope this clears things up.

Please don't start over because you feel discouraged about losing the Gem Box. You can still defeat Kefka without it. I would still use that economizer against him, but learn the spell "Quick" so that it can have the same effect (quick lets you attack twice, and paired with the economizer, you can cast three spells for 3 mp and cast a damaging spell twice. Or attack twice, whichever you prefer.).

If you have beaten the game before and wanted to exploit the game by using the "Quick Technique" to cast 5 spells in a row, it would totally cheapen and underglorify your first win against him and I do NOT recommend it for your first playthrough.

Just stick to your guns and own him. Since you have proven yourself through the magic tower, then you should have enough strength to take on Kefka himself.

クソ〜〜〜!

Oh well. I'm confident enough now that I can tear Kefka apart--thank you all for your replies.

Off to go kill that clown. Thanks again.

I have one that's a little odd. On my GBA copy of VI, I've reached the point in Kefka's tower where, having dropped the weights and brought my characters nto those three switches, taken the middle group up the stairs, fourght Guardian and Poltergeist, fallen down the hole and stood on the switch in the middle... I then don't seem to be able to do anything. I've switched back to both parties, checked out on the balconies like I've seen done in the youtube videos... but I have no doors to go through.
Is it a glitch or am I just stupendously daft? I've worked my way through the tower twice now, once with CoN guidence and once with guidence from somewhere else, and I just can't get those doors to appear. wacko.gif
Ta for any help anybody can offer. I do have a sort-of backup game, but it's from the same original file so as to if it'll behave any differently I don't know.

EDIT : Never mind. Having been getting annoyed at it for three days and putting it down over and over again because I didn't get it, I walked my central party back down the steps and out of the main door... to find two sets of doors on either balcony. Hurrah!

(but I still don't get why people on the youtube vids didn't have to do that)
