It's that time again. That glorious time. The time to make creatures fight to the death for our own amusement. Here will be a place to trade progress, opinions, friend codes, arrange trades and battles. COMMENCE THREAD!
My thoughts so far? It feels weeeeeeeeirrrrrd. It might be because lately all I've been doing is replaying the older versions which I know so well, and now having only new pokemon whose stats, movesets and types I'm not familiar with is throwing me off. Weird, but not bad weird. My current party is Tympole, Blitzle, Tranquill, Pignite and Swoobat. I don't have a sixth in my party, though I definitely should. I've beaten three gyms so far, but I need to train for a bit now. As interesting as some of the new pokemon are, I'm still really looking forward to beating the Elite Four and being able to use all the previous generations'. So, CoN. How's your pokemon adventure going? |

I'm debating whether or not to get this. On one hand, Pokemon is like, 50% of my childhood. On the other hand, I've been playing nearly the same game since 2001. I want a series reboot - not just this year's model. I know they said they were giving us that, but I'm not convinced.
There's also the fact that I NEED Dissidia Duodecim come the 22nd. -------------------- "When we think there's no hope left, we keep looking until we find some!" - Claire Farron |

Presidents of the United States of America wrote a song that they're going to perform at the launch event, it's the first thing that's piqued my interest in this game at all.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsFWVq4S3Aw I figured I'd share it because I thought it was pretty funny that a band would do this, especially one like Presidents. -------------------- "We're not tools of the government or anyone else. I played some hacked translated version of these games some time ago just to see how they were, since I really like pokemon, but I must say i didn't like what I saw.
I know, I know, I may be the typical old guy ranting about this new generation, but there were absolutely NO pokemons that caught my interest, the cities seemed so tedious... Really, I never felt so bored playing a (main series) pokemon game. I will give it another shot, but to me, the HG/SS are the ultimate versions. It's strange seeing you guys complaining about wanting something new, while all I want it's more of the same. Perhaps age has got the best of me when it comes to Pokemon. It was good while it lasted. edit: some grammar. This post has been edited by Kirchewasser on 5th March 2011 23:30 -------------------- Live Long and Prosper! |

Well, I will surely play it (even though I haven't found the time to play D/P/Pl yet), but I don't think it will be a total revamp either.
It won't fix the weaknesses of the pokémon series, some of which are the major strengths of the FF & FE series. Such as a good story, characters, the "big bad boy", someone to "hate" the whole game over, some major turns in the plot, an enemy you aren't aware of or of whom you don't know the "face", someone which is really shrouded in misteries, some force acting in the shadows and is behind everything, such stuff. |

Pokemon was absolutely my childhood, regarding Pokemon RBY and GSC, however Pokemon has fallen so very very far.
Honestly these Pokemon look ridiculous. I loved replaying GSC via HGSS recently even so. |

I haven't personally played a pokemon game since the days of Crystal (a long time ago indeed), mostly because I just feel weird not knowing any of the pokemon. I think it'd be fun to have one of these two to help pass travel time over spring break, but alas I don't even have a system capable of playing them; the last handheld I bought was a GBA (a long time ago, again). One of my roomates is set on purchasing one of them tomorrow, though, so at least I'll be able to watch him play it a bit.

Picked it up yesterday morning before a nice long flight across the country, so I've had some time to go through the game. I started out with Oshawatt, who has since evolved, and I just arrived in Castelia City. I've got Pansear, Roggenrola, Blitzle, and Purrloin also along for the ride, but I doubt any of them - with the possible exception of Blitzle's final evolution - will end up in any sort of final team.

Neal, I hate my Blitzle. It is by far the weakest pokemon in my party. I'm probably going to keep it around until it evolves, and see if anything changes, but if not, I'll switch it out for the Zoroark I intend on picking up. I also filled my sixth slot with Roggenrola, which I evolved, then immediately traded to my brother. Gigalith is one bad-ass mofo.
I'm surprised at a lot of the negativity here. I mean, yeah, pokemon isn't the most story-based series in the world, but it never has been. There's always some organisation that's up to no good, and will start making trouble in your neighbourhood, but for me at least, the appeal comes from a new setting, new pokemon, new moves, and more new pokemon that will be available in events that I will never get to. (That being said, Mystery Gift over Nintendo WFC did mean I could get a Victini, so I can't really complain about that last one!) I've played every generation at least once over, and I've already put more time into my Black file that I did on HG/SS. Take from that what you will, but I'd really recommend B/W. It's not quite as good as RBY/GSC, but so far I think it's better than either RSE/DPP. Oh, and I am so on the lookout for shinies again. |

There's always some organisation that's up to no good, and will start making trouble in your neighbourhood I wonder if you just got a terrible nature for your Blitzle. If you got something that was like, +Spd -SpAtk, then I could totally see it being abysmal, but right now it's probably my highest-performing pokemon aside from my starter, especially since it randomly learned a pretty decent fire move. Also I love how Team Plasma is just a total slam on PETA. EDIT: Why aren't you using Pansage? You should have one from the Dreamyard based on your Tepig starter. Yeah, when I looked at my brother's, he had a detrimental nature, and it was 5 levels lower, and it was better. I've just gone back to route 3 to catch another. Now it's time to make thunderunicorn babies. Mine probably got some terrible IVs, so I'll make myself a new one.
Also, Victini doesn't activate the Zoroark event as I though it would. Ah well. If my new Blitzle works out okay, I won't need it. Edit: Pansage also sux. This post has been edited by footbigmike on 7th March 2011 14:56 |

I'm most excited for the Dream World (or whatever it's called in the US). The ability to catch mons with alternate abilites is amazing. I was planning on picking
And Ninetales, my all-time favorite Pokemon, gets Drought and, after four generations, SolarBeam. YEEEES Of course, it renders the Ninetales in my HeartGold version, for whom I went very much out of my way to breed Energy Ball and Hypnosis to (the latter of which was actually by accident), practially useless, but STILL. -------------------- |

I beat down the Elite Four earlier today. I was a little underlevelled, so I used a fair few revives and Hyper Potions, but I got through okay. Average party level was a little uner 50.
Now it's time for the real game to begin. |

I feel like this is slightly off topic, but how many pokemon are there now? I know the original 150 and the next batch that followed (I think that gets me up to 250?). I know there's a bunch more now; is it hard to keep track of them all?

After the first four generations, there were 493. Black and White are fifth-generation, adding an additional 156 pokemon, bringing the grand total to 649.
I haven't played Black or White yet, and I won't for awhile. I burned out on Diamond/Pearl/Platinum/SoulSilver/HeartGold. 649 is too many. -------------------- |

At this point, Gotta Catch Em All has gone from a challenge to a madness mantra.

I think they dropped it before Ruby/Sapphire.

Does anyone else think Genesect looks like Warmech? (Somewhat appropriate, if you ask me)
