It's not called Realms of Reverie anymore, for some reason. Dragon Quest VI, first-ever legal English-language version of the game, comes out in the U.S. in February. It's not even a question - day one purchase for me. I beat an emulated version of the SFamicom version of the game a few years ago (I was in college, so probably around 3 years ago), but I'm looking forward to this all the same. Especially if I can make my characters Dragons again.

I already own Dragon Quest 4 and 5 on DS, along with 9. I plan on pre-ordering this from Amazon for day of release when I get my tax return this year. I beat 5 and 6 emulated back in the day. 5 was my favorite, but 6 was a close second. If 6 is as good as 5 was, I can't wait to play it.

Heck yes, finally. I thought we'd never see this in the west.
Personally, I was a bit disappointed in DQ9's plot although it did bring in a lot of new gameplay elements that I think should re-appear in future installments. @ Fadien: DQ5 is my favorite game in the series as well. It's probably my favorite turn-based RPG of all time. This post has been edited by Metal King Slime on 3rd January 2011 08:30 |

Heh, for the record, my favorite DQ game is a tie between V and VIII, but neither of them are my favorite turn-based RPG. That would be Skies of Arcadia. DQ IX is addictive as hell, but after awhile I stopped playing it because hunting for rare blue chests and alchemising the most powerful armours and weapons was very, very tedious. I might relapse into it eventually but I don't see it happening soon.
I was also worried that we weren't going to see this game (DQ VI, that is), but now I reckon that Square-Enix and Nintendo wanted to adequately space out DQ V, DQ IX, and DQ VI's releases in the West. Makes sense. -------------------- |

Better pre-order this online or in store from Gamestop. Don't want to miss out on the slime plushie.

My favorite of the series, and one of my favorite JRPGs ever.
Comes out tomorrow, but it broke street date at pretty much every Gamestop. I got it from Amazon so... I have a while to wait ![]() |

I tried to pick it up today from Gamestop, their street date was the 15th, wouldn't give it to me today.

I'm picking it up tomorrow with MvC3. I won't be able to play it straight away, though, since my DS is on loan to a friend playing Ghost Trick. I can wait.

Hey, remember this?
I like DQ VI better now than back when I played it on a SNES emulator. Party chat lets me like the cast a bit better, the good translation and better quest clues made me feel less lost, and the realization lightbulb that the six 2nd-tier classes in this game are the exact same six 2nd-tier classes in DQ IX was neat. I still think it isn't as good as V or VIII, but definitely not a dud, as I once believed. Three minor dislikes/qualms: Monster recruitment sucks. Instead of V's open recruitment or the SNES version's Beastmaster recruitment, there are only ~8 monsters to recruit, and you do so by meeting them and letting them join. Not as fun as the old way. Still, I used Healie and Goowain for most of the game and that was fun. Lizzie's probably the best character in the game. Not kidding. She'd be broken if she joined any earlier than she did. They nerfed Magic Burst. This is the game where Magic Burst originated, so I figured it would be mighty indeed. But no. They halved the damage it does, making it near-worthless. Dunno why they decided to do that. Class progression is still slooooow. Basing it on battles rather than a stat like skill points is interesting, but ultimately makes everything take longer. And being unable to switch classes on the fly like many class-based FF games is undesirable. I like DQ's class systems, but I wish they were more like FF's. I sort of hope DQ X has a system more like DQ VIII's. -------------------- |
