10 million sold in 4 months, fastest selling gadget of all time and all the rest of it. That's quite a number. Does anyone own one or is thinking of buying it?
First of all I just want to say this same debate came up when the Nintento Revolution was announced and everything I thought then still applies now. I have an Xbox and there's no possibility of me buying it. Maybe I'm getting old[er] but to be frank I don't see the point of it, I don't see it's potential, or a game where active body movement would add to the experience in any serious game dealing with any serious theme. I've always thought of gaming as in the mind not the body. The most logical evolutionary step would be to lose more body movement than add it. If anything, to me, this seems a step in the wrong direction, taken by Nintendo originally. But then it seems to be bought in great number by people who don't play a lot of games in the first place. Maybe it is a good idea to appeal to them. Sure, obviously it makes economic sense, but games in general might be enriched by the increased funding and player base, assuming the funding isn't going into more 'gimmicks' if you will. If it proves over time to be the hook that lands more players to the medium, and these players end up playing games like Heavy Rain, Fahrenheit or LA Noire when it comes out, I'm all for it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying these games are better than Wii Fit or whatever Kinect is putting out, I'm just saying these are the games that I play, and I will want them to continue to be good, and the more the better. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. I haven't tried the Xbox Kinect though that dancing game intrigues me, though, not enough to drop enough money for the system and the game just yet. I'm kind of annoyed at the focus on movement games because I think it has taken focus out of the quality of regular games, particularly the genre I used to to love which is japanese rpgs. I recall in another posting somoene asked about good Wii RPGs and I was kind of like, are there any? And the best anyone seems to be able to come up with is Gamecube games or virtual console, so I am left with a new system but no games for that actual system to play except movement games. I find the same frustration for my PS3. Where are the games? As gaming seems to be catering more toward the masses and the traditional non-gamers, I find as a gamer I am becoming a former gamer and having to find new hobbies, which is irritating when you've dropped as much as you have on new systems and can't even re-sell them for anywhere near what you paid for them to begin with. Ok I got a little off topic but yeah. Thanks for listening to my rant.
