Why are Keyblades named as such? I mean, the key part is obvious, but I don't see any visible sharp edge, so how are they blades? I don't think I've ever seen a Keyblade actually cut anything; you don't slice Heartless & Unversed as much as beat them into submission.
I guess "Keybluntobject" just doesnt have that same ring to it.
I don't think the "it's Disney so it's family-friendly" argument completely applies, since Aqua had some slight but noticable...jiggle in some of Birth By Sleep's cutscenes.

I recall a few of them in the first game at least looked a bit pointy, so I guess it's not too far of a stretch to assume they were sharp. While it's more accurate, I agree that 'Keyclub' just doesn't sound....magical enough.

And jiggle, you say? Suddenly Birth by Sleep is sounding very interesting...

That makes sense, although the Kingdom Key, the one everybody thinks of when they hear "Keyblade," looks like a cylinder.
And yeah. Aqua. Man, I don't know whether it's the skintight top or the blue hair, but damn is it taking effort for me to not post something creepy.

A blade is not necessarily a sharp object, just an object that cuts. A lightsaber's blade is not sharp, in fact, it's just a laser beam. But it's hot enough to melt through objects, so it's a blade. The Keyblades work to the same effect. They have magical powers that allow them to cut through things I guess.

I had the same impression when I first played kingdom Hearts. Even the model animation in the games (i just played the ps2 ones) seemed more like you were hitting the heartless with a club than a blade, but some cutscenes make shows that, at least the final blow, is a cutting hit, like when you

fight xemnas in that wannabe advent children sequence that you have to cut trough those weird buildings he throws at you and Riku

Well, I can understand that; if it is heavier at the end, for instance, it would probably force them to use it more a a hammer-like weapon. But the point I was making is that there are different in-game rules for magic devices (btw, this topic is probably doing much more discussion than they ever had when creating it).

oh i just played KH 358/2 days and the lift gear you equip is a sword that would most likely chop the kingdom key in two

also another reason why they use the keyblade as the main weapon is for the locks your constantly finding in KH1

You mean in real life or in the game?
