Has anyone tested the japanese original version of ff7? i heard that the japanese version explains the game a lot better than the translated version and there were typos and errors in the translation.I don't speak japanese though so i couldn't really test it.

It's not a lot, but there's some parts of the Japanese version translated here:

I hate to bring this up again, but if this is the "worst Final Fantasy you ever played," Why do you want the Japanese translation? Would that translation change your opinion of the game that much?

I've looked around for an English patch of it, but to no avail, which I always found odd...people have done a patch for IV to make it like the Japanese 'EasyType' version, but no one's cleaned up the grammar on the most popular game in the series? But that's how it goes, either way.

The reason i bring it up was out of curiosity because i heard it was better than the original and explains things a lot more.My issue is with the characters and if this is true, then perhaps the characters also have more depth?

I really doubt any of the characters would be noticeably different if you were reading the game in Japanese. Having said that I don't know for sure so maybe it would be. The thing is, you'll have to be able to read Japanese to really know for sure. Another English (or Spanish) translation isn't going to really help you unless it has words translated, for example, as terrible/unfair/unjust/x2 to get it as close as possible to the Japanese meaning. As far as I know that kind of thing isn't out there. And even if it was the game will be stupid to play like that.

I think if you don't like any of the characters as they're portrayed in English then I very much doubt that you'll like them in their original format. I'd wager that it could even be worse in Japanese. I know you said you wanted more depth in the characters, but really, what are you looking for? The game is full of changing characters and emotional scenes. The only thing that would make the game better is if it had even more fleshing out of the characters in more scenes. And if Tifa, Yuffie and Cait Sith had a lot more independent development outwith the other characters.

I heard something about having extra scenes and characters being more fleshed out due to less translation errors. Why do i explore this idea? i was curious because i like to explore stories of games and know my facts so i can be just in judging a game.

Most of the mistranslations are fairly minor in my mind, and mostly contribute to little misconecptions about the Cetra, and a few other things. Nothing TOO drastic that I can think of. I know there's a guy named Squall_Of_Seed who's compiled a bunch of information in several locations across the net on things like this.

I seriously doubt that there would be extra scenes. In fact, the English version actually has more content than the Japanese one, what with the additional WEAPON fights and the Zack flashback. I once played a translation of VI that was as close as could be to the Japanese text, and I actually felt it incredibly dull and dry, the vast majority of the humour that Ted Woolsey brought to the table was gone with nothing to replace it. I'd like to see if the Japanese text of VII clarified the script a little, perhaps, but there wouldn't actually be anything NEW to it.
