Tidus is on the Chaos side in Duodecim. Don't believe me? I wish you were right in doing so.

Seriously, Squeenix, what the hell? WHAT THE FREAKING HELL? You've taken my favorite character, from my favorite game, in my favorite series, and you've made him decide he's going to destroy the world! This is NOTHING like him! So he's still ticked at his dad, got it. He wouldn't join the opposite side just to tick him off, it's not like him. In fact, it would have made for a better story, if they were on the same side! Think about, why don't you? Tidus and Jecht's rivalry escalating to the point where they sabotage a mission, or cost Cosmos a battle trying to out-do each other! BUT NO. You've just thoroughly derailed one of my favorite characters. Yeah, he's got his hatedom who are probably glad they get to beat up on the guy. Yeah, he's a little immature. NO, he would not try to destroy the multiverse just to get on Daddy's nerves.

Why are you doing this to me, Square Enix? I was ALWAYS the first to defend you when someone hated on you. I was ALWAYS the first to point out that you'd only had one indisputably bad game, and one of questionable quality before everyone decided you guys had jumped the shark. I was always the first to speak up and say I ENJOYED the games people were decrying you for, because I really did. I even played through XIII - a game with NO replay value whatsoever - a second time JUST to see if my hype had clouded my judgment. (In your defense, it hadn't.) I jumped for joy the second I heard you had gotten a domain for XIII-2. I assumed people were just letting the fact that XIII wasn't AS good as the first ten games get to them too much. I assumed nostalgia - in part - clouded their judgment. And goddamnit if I didn't muscle through Snow's hero bull just so I could play through XIII.

But you know what? Those were right. You guys are completely out of touch with your fanbase, letting your success get to your heads. I'm not gonna say "you let your best employees go" because most of my favorite games of yours likely didn't have Sakaguchi anywhere withing three miles of the computers they were made on.

I am NEVER buying one of your games again. Maybe the possible sequel to World Ends With You, but that's it. I am DONE with you guys. You were my favorite company in the world just four hours ago - now, I think you're about as good having a girl say "I love you" during a CPR lecture. I exaggerate not - that actually happened to me. I KNOW what I'm talking about.

In the words of Rydia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bahp8XSWH80

Goodbye, Square Enix. And you know what? Good. Effing. Riddance.

Uh, yeah, I overreacted. People on chat pointed out that I haven't even PLAYED the game yet, and well, they're right. Upon further examination, I have decided that since both Cloud and Terra are Chaos as well, it is likely this is some sort of xanatos gambit to take down Chaos from the inside. This theory is supported by the fact that Cloud and Golbez are working together in Prologus, and if Golbez was anything BUT a double agent in the first Dissidia, then I don't know the meaning of the term.

So yeah. I'll play the game. THEN decide.

Could it possibly be evil Tidus from X-2?

PS: welcome to the curmudgeon club. You need to pick a suitably obscure S-E game to bring up as the last good game before they 'sold out' though. I chose 3D World Runner myself!

That made me laugh a lot! Now that you mention it I think that's what happened to me with Advent Children. I watched it and thought, "hmm that was sh--e". I don't mind these spin offs which are basically resourceful fan fiction, and should be read or treated as such, but it does lose them confidence. And their integrity as a games developer must surely be at an all time low by now. I wouldn't care AT ALL if I didn't think the CoNs future (as it stands) lies with SE making good FF games.

Tidus is... my favorite character, from my favorite game

Not to be a troll, but there's your problem right there. wink.gif

There does seem to be a problem with half of Square's output being bad fanfiction though. And half of that being bad crossover fanfiction. And, you know, everyone else having caught up and done better with storyline and presentation in the last decade, so that it's more painfully obvious.

But cheer up, chap! You're liberated now. Go play some good games. You'll be all the happier! biggrin.gif

Indeed, congratulations. You've escaped.

With regards to the actual event, Uh oh! Someone has some Daddy issues!

But for everyone who cares, this is actually a big problem for them. Now who do they root for? Arses to the left of them, Arses to the right of them, Arses to the front of them. Into the valley of crap, into the jaws of Canon-Fanfic, rode the six hundred.

The cynic in me, which is to say all of me, thinks that the entire attempt is just to latch onto the fact that the eeeevil characters get all the fangirls. And they saw that Twilight got a lot of attention from having shirtless idiots everywhere so maybe they think a shirtless evil Tidus will make more people like him.

Out of all the stuff that Square has done, this made you snap? Man.... why not think of this as a cool thing? Hey, at least they're doing some sort of development in what basically amounts to Square's Super Smash Brothers. It'd be like Nintendo turning DK evil; it is interesting, but it doesn't change him from what he is.

Well, yes. yes it is. I know it's dumb, but you have to understand the circumstances under which I played Final Fantasy X. It was summer 2009, and I was just starting to recover from an illness that had kept me out of school for five years. I was going back to my favorite camp for the first time in years, and it looked like I was actually going to have a future - no, it was the first time it looked like I was going to have a LIFE.

So, my brother says "Sure, fine, you can use my PS2" and I'm like "Hmm... I played FFIV last summer, so maybe I should get this game 'cause it's Final Fantasy and everywhere I go, people are like 'Square-Enix are god!'" (This was, to the extent of my knowledge before Squeenix-hate.) So, I make my Dad buy it for me off the Square-Enix store, and wait for it to come. I remember the EXACT date it got here too - July 15th, 2009.

So, I'm spending my summer meeting new kids, and making new friends, and you know... living. Meanwhile, in addition to being back in the real world, I was introduced to another, just as fascinating world inhabited by these diverse peoples, all struggling to survive this menace, and the young girl who stood in its way - and eventually, the sacrifice a boy made so that said girl could live on in the freed world.

I LOVED Tidus. He was a cool guy, with a big heart and a good head on his shoulders, thrust into extraordinary circumstances, and coming to terms with them all while growing as a person, and making friends with all these equally fascinating persons. I admired him.

Final Fantasy X represents a time in my life where it looked like things MIGHT turn out okay. Where it looked like I had beaten my illness, and it wasn't coming back. (I had beaten my illness, for those who care, but school wasn't smooth sailing like I had thought it would be - I essentially went from being a nine-year-old to a freshman in high school in about five seconds. It was tough.)

That is why I'm so furious that Square-Enix is doing this. In fact, I honestly think it's the stupidest thing they've done ever.

Oh, and it can't be fanfiction, because a company can't write fanfiction about they're own property - because then, it isn't fanfiction.

So basically you're $#!^ing a brick over the fact that a character in a barely confirmed game with a plot that no one really knows anything about is aligned with the bad guys from the previous game? Even though the FF series has been horribly mismanaged in the last several years, I seriously doubt they'll turn a character with one of their largest fanboi followings to the darkside. Maybe you should chill out and wait until more info is released before you blow your top.

And for the record, the stupidest thing they've ever done by far was release FFXIV in the state it was when shipped, a half finished game.
