My favorite film of 2010 was Inception. Really enjoyed it and it gets better and better with repeat viewings as I find something I missed every time I see it again and it gives a better grasp on things with the plot as well.

Yeah Inception was great. Others I liked were Machete, The Social Network, Shutter Island, Black Swan, Scott Pilgrim and L'Illusionniste. Also Rec 2, I can't really say it's a great film, not as good as Rec, but I think it deserves a mention for being quite scary despite the storyline trying hard to ruin it. Kiss Ass was fun as well. A bit like an appetiser for Scott Pilgrim. Not a bad year all in all.
The one I want to pick out is Social Network. I had no idea it would be so good. I went into the cinema on the back of a few people watching it and telling me it was alright. So I thought I'd see it for a bit of fun, how good could a film about Facebook really be? Unbelievably good. The only films I remember watching were Shutter Island and Toy Story 3. I'm always behind though, in movies, music, and games. I thought Toy Story was really well-made.

I really loved Defendor.
Avatar was a nice ride. (not the airbender one- Shayamalan should never have directed that) |

Only 2010 film I remember viewing was Despicable Me, so it wins by default I guess.

For me it's a toss-up between Inception and The Social Network. Those two will absolutely last the test of time. I also loved Toy Story 3, and it is certainly a classic, but once in theaters was enough.
And finalalias, Avatar was 2009. End of 2009, but still. This post has been edited by laszlow on 8th January 2011 04:37 -------------------- |

Hate to be so girly, but Burlesque! I loved it. The music was awesome and fun. It was so fabulous it made me want to wear sequins and dance! Also, the main character was incredibly likeable and the non-dancing part of the story was fun, too.
I didn't see Inception, though everyone making jokes about it kind of ruined my wanting to see it. Despicable Me was also pretty cute! Uhh, Harry Potter 7? Anyone? -------------------- You're telling me that there's no hope. I'm telling you you're wrong. |

Inception. Best movie EVER, not just 2010. I've seen it 4 times, and I've memorized almost all of it (You're waiting for a train...), and it never gets old. So much win in so little time.

Probably Inception, really liked The Social Network, but not as much. The Deathly Hallows was a strong contender as well.

I don't see why people like Scott Pilgrim... Anyway, I didn't see many new films this year but my vote goes for Kick-Ass.

Quote (Metal King Slime @ 8th January 2011 12:17) I don't see why people like Scott Pilgrim... Well...I don't see why people like the Scott Pilgrim Movie. The movie screwed up quite a few plot threads, abandoned others, stuff some more at the end so they would just be there. Basically, it's a really bad adaptation of an excellent comic book (or is it graphic novel now?). As for movies I actually enjoyed in 2010, there are two movies I found great despite being at opposite ends of the taaste spectrum, and I see they've been mentioned already, but it bears repeating: Inception, with its intricate plot, "dream or not" guessing and the "reverse caper" idea at the core is really entertaining. On the other hand we have Machete, wich is a festival of corny violence punctuated with some occasional (and quite nice looking) female nudity. Uncomplicated, funny, spectacular. So, yeah. -------------------- "I fell off the mountain of words at around the 10,000ft mark. It rightly adapted the source material to fit the new format while still retaining it's tone and theme. Anyway, dunno which flick was my favorite this year cause I can't remember all the movies I watched. I imagine Scott would be a likely contender though. I really enjoyed Inception, but I'm not sure why everyone's saying it's the greatest movie ever. It was a great caper flick, reminded me of a throwback to Ocean's 11 or maybe even a Bond film, and obviously the effects were awe-inspiring and make me excited for what the next Batman film will bring to the table visually, but really the philosophy was almost embarrassing, it felt like I was listening to some stoned freshman rambling for 2 hours. I thought the ambiguity of the ending was neat, but in the end I'd put Inception in the same boat as the Watchmen movie, an entertaining popcorn flick, but nothing life-changing.
As for best movie of 2010? True Grit, obviously. -------------------- "If art doesn't risk upsetting expectations and challenging its audience, it can only stagnate." |

I'm trying to make myself come around on True Grit. It was very entertaining, but for me it was a slight disappointment. I can look at it and say it was a good film, very good in fact, and notice all the clever techniques, the interesting-if-simple themes, the ambiguity and the quirky Coens humor; I just don't really love that much myself.

I've watched Scott Pilgrim probably six times already just because it's such a fun movie to have on in the background. Inception is just an incredibly well-written and well-told story, and Toy Story 3 is just adorable and wonderful. Granted I didn't see a whole lot of movies in 2010, but I enjoyed pretty much everything I saw and I own all three of those on Blu-Ray. -------------------- Hey, put the cellphone down for a while In the night there is something wild Can you hear it breathing? It rightly adapted the source material to fit the new format while still retaining it's tone and theme. Tone perhaps. Theme? No. Things wrong with the movie: Possible spoilers: highlight to view No closure, AT ALL, with Envy Adams. After a lot of emotional build-up she just disappears when Todd is defeated. Everything after Todd Ingram felt horribly rushed so they'd have time for the final boss fight with Gideon. This is especially true concerning the Katayanagi Twins, the battle against whom is so incredibly token they might have as well not been there. They have no sub-plot of their own, nor do they have any emotional presentation. They're just there. Nega Scott thrown hastily in at the end, despite some foreshadowing also very token, even if I loved the way the battle with him ended. Knives fighting Ramona thrown in at the end, after letting the viewer forget Knives for a portion of the movie. Ramona's "dabbled in being a bitch" plot point barely scraped. Scott being a womanizing *insert expletive*... maybe hinted at. The Glow was not in the movie. WTF, movie?!? Fight scenes were awesome, though. -------------------- "I fell off the mountain of words at around the 10,000ft mark. I really liked Inception. I feel like it gets knocked down all the time just because of the hype, but I take it for what it is: A good, original story that isn't riding on the coattails of sequels or remakes or adaptations, and it was executed well. How many of these do you really see anymore?
Toy Story 3 was surprisingly more adult than I took it for at first, and it became one of my favorites for the year. Shutter Island was one of my other favorites. I guess I really have a thing for Leo as a leading role, huh? |

Scott Pilgrim and Deathly Hallows part 1 are definitely my two favorites. I loved Inception, but it just didn't have the emotional attachment to the source material that I've got for Harry Potter and the Pilgrim books.
I also really liked the new Tron flick. The plot was lackluster and pretty bare, but it was just so pretty and purely entertaining that I couldn't not love it. I haven't even seen Toy Story 3 yet, urgh. Need to fix that. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

I would probably have to say that my favorite of the year was Inception. That movie was absolutely great, the plot was really well done and I felt that the acting was good too. Beyond that, I really liked Scott Pilgrim: like Neal, I've seen it many times already. I thought Harry Potter 7.1 was really good as well. And, to be honest, I think those are the only new films I saw this year!

I don't go to the movies very often these days because they've gotten so expensive, but I actually went to see several in 2010, and I enjoyed them all. "Kick-Ass" was a lot of fun, and I absolutely loved "Despicable Me" and "MegaMind." I'm also rereading The Chronicles of Narnia because I enjoyed "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" so much.

I actually completely forgot that I saw Iron Man 2 until I read FinalFantasyAoibh's post. It wasn't bad, but I like Robert Downey Jr. quite a bit from way back when, and Don Cheadle is awesome, better than Terence Howard in the Rhodey role. Really, it was a pretty great cast overall.
Other than that, I only saw Scott Pilgrim in theatres, and I'm glad that I've never read the actual graphic novels, because I am saved from any nerdrage that's come up in this thread. I liked the movie and it doesn't matter to me what it is compared to the source material. I finally just saw Inception a couple weekends ago, and there's really not much I can say about it that's new. It's as excellent as everyone assumes, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt is quickly becoming one of my favorite young actors. Christopher Nolan just can't do wrong, can he? And, I must say that it was a great way to break in my new era of living without sharing walls with neighbors; the dream collapse scenes shook my hardwood floor in my living room. ![]() -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |
