In less than 2 weeks (or 2 weeks in my teams case) College Football Returns!
The Associated Press Preseason Poll While Alabama is ranking #1, I don't think they will be the best team in college football, as they return just 2 starters on a defense. I have this feeling that the title game will be Boise St vs. Oklahoma. Just a feeling. My team the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, should have a decent season. I say they go 8-4 or 9-3 with losses to MSU, Pitt, and Boston College. But they could surprise and have the best WR and TE in college football with Michael Floyd and Kyle Rudolph. |

I haven't been following much in the offseason, as there are sports that mean more to me that took up the whole summer. However, I really don't see any reason to think that this is Notre Dame's renaissance year. I expect Purdue to give them quite a game today, and ND should count themselves lucky if they exit with a win. A game over .500 should be considered a good season for them this year, and finishing the season ranked is probably too much to hope for. As always, I'm looking forward to the SEC. I think Florida's probably a bit overranked to start the season, and while 'Bama deserves their #1, I don't expect them to finish there. The SEC is just too brutal. My alma mater will suffer as usual. I very nearly bought tickets for today's Braggin' Rights game in St. Louis, but I suspect that by the end of the day I'll be glad I didn't - Mizzou should beat Illinois handily, and that will pave the way for yet another sad Big Ten campaign. As for a champion, I feel like it's hard to pick against the SEC. Last time we had a non-SEC champion was 2005, after all. However, while I expect either 'Bama or Florida to make the title game, I suspect Oklahoma will win it all. I don't put that much weight behind it, though, because it's a loooooooong season. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Looking pretty good on this one so far, Navy is abusing them today to keep Notre Dame well out of being particularly respectable. Quote (Ditto) As always, I'm looking forward to the SEC. OK, not quite as good here. A little luck and perhaps a bowl is possible for Illinois this year. That might actually save Zook his job! Poor Ron Zook. Great recruiter, no results on the field. Quote (OK - I wish this one wasn't me) As for a champion, I feel like it's hard to pick against the SEC. Last time we had a non-SEC champion was 2005, after all. I want to see either Oregon or Boise make it to the BCS title game. Both would make it too hard to pick a favorite. And they both look capable, all it takes is an Oklahoma misstep, I think. Also, I just double posted almost two months apart. Seriously? Nobody else watches college football? -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I've always thought the pros were much more fun to watch. The level of competition is better, and they actually have a good system for choosing a champion. -------------------- |

I've always sorta preferred watching college football. For some reason I never noticed this threat, though.
As someone from Wisconsin, I was bouncing off the walls last week when they pulled off that win of Ohio State. That was a fantastic game. -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! This bowl season has been absolutely insane. I'm watching Stanford just beat the hell out of Virginia Tech right now, completely dominating both sides of the ball - it's 40-12 but it should really be 42-3. Just an incredible showing by the Cardinal.
I cannot wait for the Ducks to take on Auburn in the national title though. I generally don't care too much for the national championship game but this one would be a really amazing matchup even if I didn't have a dog (or a duck) in the fight this year. I think it's gonna be one of the best college games in history. -------------------- Hey, put the cellphone down for a while In the night there is something wild Can you hear it breathing? Bowl Season has indeed been awesome. Glad to see the Irish take down Miami of Florida. The Rose and Sugar Bowls were both fun to watch as well.

No kidding, a bowl game win for the Irish is a bowl game win, regardless of what the bowl is. Especially when it's against Miami. As someone from Wisconsin, though, I was a bit disappointed by the Rose Bowl ![]() This post has been edited by Death Penalty on 6th January 2011 00:24 -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! The Win is the thing that matters most in the book. We do play Miami of Florida again in 2012.
19 Returning Starters (10 on offense, 9 on defense) next season, things are looking good. |

Quote (BlitzSage) they actually have a good system for choosing a champion. I probably would stop watching college football if the bowl system got removed. The only solution people ever come up with other than "BCS SUX LOL" is a playoff, and I personally find that generic and really not a better solution anyway. How many teams do you put in? Four? Well, this year, that means only one 1-loss team gets in. How do you pick that team, and does it make it any more fair than the current system? Eight? Sixteen? Might as well make it a semi-pro league and take the colleges out of it if you're going to require playoff teams to play three or four more games to win the title, because the teams certainly won't even pretend to have student-athletes any more Quote (GamblingCat) The Win is the thing that matters most in the book. Impressive lack of offensive display, this! What I've thought they should do is keep the ranking system, and the bowl system the way it is, but make a 8-team tournament. A 8-team tournament would mean 7 playoff games. Why not just take the top 7 most prestigious bowl games and use them for the playoff? Keep the other bowl games as they are. I think it would more exciting, personally. -------------------- |

As for Miami (FL), they could be, the new coach can turn things around but its usually around year 3 when they do (And they will be in year 2 in 2012) |
