I'm new, I'm trying to play ff7 for the first time with my husband. here is my problem.
we have purchased the game in it's original playstation format. our playstation 1 has no cords, so we can't use that. I have a working playstation 2. We put the disc in, and it leads to the title screen, but it will not respond to the controller. I am pressing start, select, x, d pad, everything. I unplug the controller, blow on it, plug it back in, nothing. I switch to out wireless controller, same problem. Our controllers work fine for all of our PS2 games. I know ff7 was made before analog controllers. Is this my problem?

Also, my husband tries very hard to get an emulator and the iso for the game read off the disc to play on pc instead. it is always read off the disk, and replayed way too fast. Can't seem to fix this either.

someone please help!

If the analog sticks are on, the controller will not respond at all. Just push the button so the red light goes out, and you should be fine.

If that doesn't work, then I'm not entirely sure.

The controller problem is really strange. I'd just keep trying it and turn off the analogue button like FBM says.

If you're wanting to play it on PC use the ePSXe emulator it's easily the best. If the game is running too fast it might be because the frame rate is too high. There is a box to tick in the video configuration on ePSXe and probably in other emulators too which can cap the frame rate and keep the game running at the right speed.

Another reason might be the sound. PSX games seem to sync their sound speed with game speed so if you've not configured the sound right, or turned it off entirely, the game goes wild.

There are two major PS1 emulators I know of, ePSXe (for which you need to get separate video and audio plugins) and pSX.

pSX works fine with FFVII based on what I've read though I've not tried it. ePSXe's performance depends on the plugins you choose.

Thanks for the replies.

For now we are using the epsxe emulator. we had to customize the frame rate(way too fast in battle on the frame rate it was set for, I think we ended up using 4X), an iso and use pete's plugin for sound, because apparently it didn't work with sound straight off the cd-rom (frustration). So the sound is slightly off, I'm worried that it's going to bug up right when we get out of battles and delete all my progress.

The controller, despite having the analog turned off, will not respond to this game. It still does fine with all my ps2 games. You try to look up this stuff on playstation's website and they are like "sorry I can't help you, that product is dead to us now, and we have zero links working for it. Would you care for a PS3 or PSP?"

Since I like JRPGs and every ff up to this one (haven't played the others yet, I'm a late-bloomer, so to speak) I am going to continue trying. Thanks for all the fish!

Maybe you could try finding a third-party controller in a game shop or online? I'm sure you wouldn't have to pay that much extra. If it doesn't work take it back.

Have you tried with a PS1 controller? If that doesn't work either, then it would either be a problem with the game or (more likely) your PS2.
