Hello all, I just joined up to actually make this post. Sorry I didn't really check to see if one like this was already going. I was just wondering if anyone has tried other tactics besides the ones I find listed here and also on so many other sites.

I for one don't see the point of using so many mine materia and stuff like that. I fought ruby at around lv 63, using Cloud only. The other two party members were immediately sucked under *which is what I was going for*

On Cloud I had this
Ultima Weapon
Wizard Bracelet
Ribbon

Materia-
Restore
Full Cure
Ultima with 4x materia
Enemy Skill *used only Big Guard and Dragon Force*
W-Item
W-Summon
4xs Cut
Hp plus
Mp Plus
Gil Plus
Magic Plus
Speed Plus
Odin *didn't use*
Lv 2 Knights of the Round
Lv 4 Bahamut ZERO

Items used
Hyper *I always self induce Fury to achieve limit breaks quicker at a small cost of accuracy. Usually never misses still*
4 Hero Drinks
Around 30 X-Potions and Turbo Ethers

Limit- Omislash *obviously*

Started out simply by casting Big Guard. While waiting for the fingers to go down I used the 4 hero drinks and buffed myself with Dragon Force.
After dealing with the fingers to be able to do damage to Ruby himself I casted W-Summon KoTR. With the 4 hero drinks it ensures 9999 on each hit. After doing this, I simply kept attacking with 4x cut *doing about 7000 or more per hit* and doing Omislash at every chance. 4x cut also works great on dealing with the fingers when they are dropped down again. I used the Ultima Xs4 once but I did more damage actually regular attacking. I found that taking them out quickly as possible was the ideal choice. I would use W-Item to fully restore HP/MP when the fingers drained me down. Full Cure's MP cost is a bit steep and didn't work as well as using W-Item. Casted Regen when I felt safe enough to, but it wasn't really needed either. The fight wasn't hard really. Just doing it solo and using mostly physical attacks made it take almost 45mins. But the KoTR did take about 600k HP from him give or take.
It's really not as hard as a battle as all the strategies make it out to be. Note this tactic was the one I used for the first time beating Ruby weapon. I've tried other peoples ways, but never had as much luck. The materia combo I used was one I just came up with on the go and it worked really well. Though half of the materia was usless. The Plus materias really went a long way though on gil though. I believe I leveled up 7 or 8 times.

Anyone else got any interesting ways of getting it done? Something new?

Do it as a frog. You can use three characters if it's too difficult with one. It's very possible to win, and it looks pretty funny to watch a frog skipping after beating the second hardest creature in the world. Mini is too easy. My strategy:

Vincent with Death Penalty and a lot of kills under his belt will bring your frog's attack up to 9999. A Speed Drink for Haste. Dazers for Ruby to keep him in Stop. This will kill him after quite a long time.

Something I was working on for a while was to beat Emerald in as short a time as possible from the beginning of the game. I had a thread going here. I was thinking of doing the same with Ruby at some point in the future.

Lol Well I had never thought of that. But I don't think I'd go that way lol. Maybe Mini, cause it'd be funny to see Cloud going crazy with Omislash *and doing only 15 damage total lol*

Lucky 7777's is probably the easiest way to go with the weapons. No Knights of Round, Mimes, or magic needed for either one.

Emerald can be beat in less than the 15 minutes you're given.

Just equip a mastered HP Plus materia on each of the three characters to bring their HP up to 9,999 and something wasteful like a All so they all have exactly two materias. Keep your HP's maxed out with Megalixirs and whenever Emerald uses his Aire Tam Storm attack, all three of your characters will get Lucky 7777's and Emerald will die almost instantly.

Ruby was a bit harder because of his ridiculously high defense, but can still be killed right off the bat.

Everyone in the attacking party should have 9,999 HP.Barret equipped with Missing Score, Slash All materia, and a total AP equalling 2,222 (that isn't too hard if you know how much AP you get from what enemies). Revive and fully heal everyone when Ruby puts his tentacles in the ground. Attack your own party with Barret's Slash All and Lucky 7777's. This produces a dead Ruby Weapon and you didn't even have to directly attack him to do it.

Yup but if I'm trying and beat him in as quick a time from the beginning of the game I don't have any mastered HP Plus materia, or more than 1700 HP per character! The lucky 7s only take off half his health anyway.

All sound like good ideas. But I meant something more of a challenging nature and not make it to easy. But also keeping the party as normal as possible. I have yet been able to beat Ruby with a lv lower than 60 with only Cloud. *note I haven't played it much in the past 3-4 years, at least not all the way to the 3rd disk lol*
