So I thought I'd throw out there an opposite thread to the "Favorite character in the entire series" thread. Who is your least favorite of either the entire series or each game, whichever you wanna do?
FFI - N/A FFIII - Arc, but they're all not much different from each other in this game. FFIV - FuSoYa. His defense is incredibly weak and he has all these big magic spells, but has so little HP to use them. And he turns into a mop when he dies in battle. =\ FFV - Krile. I just didn't like her as a replacement for Galuf. FFVI - Hidden characters (Gogo, Umaro and Mog) aside, I think I'll say Relm. Krile, Relm...maybe I just don't like little kids in my party? But that couldn't be it, because I didn't mind kid Rydia, or Palom and Porom. Whatever. I just didn't like Relm very much. FFVII - Cait freakin' Sith! What a completely stupid and useless character. FFVIII - Selphie. I just hate that ridiculous hair-do with a passion!!! ![]() FFIX - Amarant. He wasn't too bad; not like previous ones I've mentioned, but I have to choose someone and it's him. FFXII - Penelo. Ugly outfit and hair (like Selphie ![]() FFXIII - Hope. It's Vaan V.2. And if I had to choose a least favorite of the entire series, it's a tough choice to choose just one, but it's Cait Sith. FFIV: Kain. Betrayed the party twice, and has no interesting unique skill. Jump only does 2x damage but takes two turns. No magic at all. The best he can do is to grab the Holy Spear and cast White.
FFV: For some reason, Faris never piqued my interest as much as any of the other characters did. Not to say she wasn't interesting, but just my least favorite. FFVI: Relm. Relatively useless ability (Gau's rages are about as powerful as the monster but Relm's sketches are generally much weaker), and otherwise weak with stats. Except magic, but I never really liked using magic that much in that game, usually favoring abilities if possible. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. I. thief. i had no patience for that class
II. Maria. never got hit early on so i finished the game with her around 30hp. always died III. Arc I guess but they were all cool IV. Edward wasn't great in battle so him. V. Reina. She can whine up a storm in this game VI. Everyone but Edgar, Shadow, Locke, Sabin, and Celes annoyed me. I hated the "split the party" dungeons because everyone was terrible because I never used them. Relm, Gau, Strago, and Terra (yeah, that's right) turned me off of this game so quickly. VII. Barret. Never used him, don't like his demeanor. VIII. I never used Quistis, Selphie, or Irvine as a kid because they weren't colorful and it just stuck. To this day my Party is still Squall, Zell, and Rinoa. The others just weren't as good. IX. Never used Quina, but I liked all of the characters. X. Everyone but Lulu. XI. I hated that little moogle and his stupid dancing. XII. Basch (yeah, you read that right). I harbored a bit of a grudge after the whole Reks thing (I know it wasn't him, but still), and I didn't like his clothing so I never used him. Then again, I didn't use Fran or Penelo either, so they're all tied. Surprise: I kinda liked Vaan. XIII. Everyone. Every. Single. Character. Lightning and Snow were alright at times but Vanille and Hope made me want to kill myself. -------------------- Aujourdhui a commence avec toi. |

There weren't too many characters that I really disliked in the series. But there were certainly some. I mostly pass judgement due to a character's story/personality, but if I don't like them for those reasons then being useless in battle only adds to the dislike.
FFIV: Edward - Couldn't stand him. At all. This isn't surprising, of course, because let's face it: who actually liked him? FFV: Everyone except Galuf and Faris - A dark, dark day for Final Fantasy plots. FFVIII: Selphie - Just kinda... meh. I don't really actively dislike her, but I don't care for her. FFXIII: Hope - Sorta obnoxious, in my opinion. I liked what this game did with most of the characters, but Hope ticked me off. I can understand whininess for a while, but after a certain point it really gets to me. -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! I. Black Mage. Attack magic always seemed too weak for me in this game, thus anything a black mage can do a red mage can do better. Sure he was the start of that cool look, but...white and red mages had that cool look, too!
II. Gordon. None of the 4th party members were any good, but Gordon was the worst. III. Allus. He looked like a dork. IV. Cagnazzo. Surprisingly, Edward never bothered me, even when he was named 'Gilbart'. I love the 'new' four Fiends, but Cagnazzo is so easy, and so dumb looking, that he almost made me miss Kraken. Also, no one can pronounce his name correctly. V. Exdeath. Bland villain and stupid name. VI. Strago. Barring L.4 Flare, his blue magic was almost never useful. VII. Oh, I don't dare say it... VIII. Irvine. How can people dislike Cid? He looks like Robin Williams, that's gotta count for something. Irvine, on the other hand, I used to derisively call 'Kid Rock' when I was 15 and I thought it was REALLY witty. IX. Freya. At least Amarant's useful fighting Ozma...sadly, Steiner outclasses all other physical fighters in IX and makes them superfluous. X. Yuna. Voice actress was atrocious. Tidus' VA redeemed himself in Dissidia, so now the onus of shoddy voicework falls on Yuna. Past X, I have yet to find a character I like, so I'll just stick with the Sakaguchi games. -------------------- "If art doesn't risk upsetting expectations and challenging its audience, it can only stagnate." |

FFI: The thief (never really used him)
FFII: Leila (only good for getting hit) FFIII: Scholar (Only useful against Hyne, then completely useless) FFIV: Yang (kinda bland) FFV: N/A (I liked them all equally) FFVI: Sabin (Never really used him and His blitzes lose to more powerful techniques later in the game) FFVII: Yuffie (came out of nowhere. I wish they gave her more backstory) FFVIII: Squall (need I say more) FFIX: Steiner (He was good up until the point when Vivi joins, then is completely forgotten) FFX: Kimahri (Another character I never used much) FFXI: N/A (Twas an MMO) FFXII: Basch (No comment) FFXIII: N/A (I also liked the entire cast) ________________________________________________________________________________ CT: Marle (useless once you get either frog or robo) CC: Korcha (Again, no comment) -------------------- The meaning of life is life itself. 1 - Thief : What kind of "thief" is he? He doesnt backstab or rob or anything. Just a worse version of the fighter who cant even use all the weapons/armors.
2 - Leila : Was dead at the end of almost every fight ... 4 - *Changing this* Tellah : I was actually happy when he died. Was the biggest pain. 5 - Hrmm I dont think there was a character I disliked. 6 - Gau : Too much of a pain to deal with. 7 - Cait Sith : Just worthless. IV - Cecil
Why can't he just be a Dark Knight? Or we could get a choice between light and dark? V - Butz/Bartz He's not bad, just my least favourite. VI - Gau His music is terrible. Plus it takes about 10 minutes for him to do his thing in the battles in the Veldt. Other than that he's ok. VII - Tifa VIII - Rinoa Her best part in the game is when Squall carries her unconscious to Esther. The rest of the time she's a bit of a pain. Luckily Squall has a chance in Timber to give her a rant. IX - Amarant I really like him. However he should have come into the game earlier. We see him early on in the Castle but don't get to fight until Maiden Sari, instead fighting Lani. It's a shame because he could've been a bit of a recurring fighting who eventually joins the team. That is the only way I can decide on a least favourite. X - Tidus His voice is awful. Few people have such annoying voices in life. XII - Fran What was that all about? XIII - Hope He just shouldn't have been there. I really like how Yahtzee said he 'pulls a boomerang quite literally out of his arse.' That's exactly it, once a battle ended and the camera zoomed on him from behind, and he put the boomerang right back into his arse. It's like that was actually the intention of the designers. Yeah, I liked Dark Knight Cecil alot more than Paladin Cecil. He was cool as a dark knight, but when he went paladin, he became so bland and boring. Had he stayed a dark knight, Cecil would've been my favorite character in that game. Instead, it's Kain. -------------------- |

I'm surprised people like the angsty Kain but dislike the angsty Terra and Cloud.
Or was it because Kain actually got blood on his hands? 1 - N/A, no actual characters, merely cut and paste player icons with no actual personalities beyond that placed upon them by the player, because the developers certainly didn't give them personalities....
2 - See Below 3 - None 4 - Edward 5 - None 6 - Gogo 7 - Cait Sith 8 - Irvine 9 - Quina 10 -Tidus 11- See Below/FF1 12 - Vaan 13 - See Below/FF1 14 - See Below/FF1 2, 13, 11, 14 - What he said. Quote (Aeris-Logan @ 18th November 2010 03:39) 4 - Kain : Dragoons suck. He is no exception. If he were a real Dragoon, either a hybrid cavalryman/infantryman with a carbine or one of this kind of dragoon I wager he would suck considerably less. FF1- Monk. Don't know why, just don't like his clothes that much.
FF2- Leon. He's got chronic backstabbing disorder, and it shows. FF3- Luneth. He really didn't have much of a personality. He just wore purple and moved and spoke. He was kind of like a cardboard cutout compared to the rest. FF4- Rydia. Why do people like her so much ? I don't understand. She looses her mum and is free to be sad and almost kills two people, but when Edward looses his fiance she slaps him in the face and tells him to grow up. What ? The man just lost somebody dear to him. I don't get the Rydia love. FF5- Cid. He just wasn't as silly or crazy or cheerful like the other Cids. He was kind of like the Cid from FF 8. FF6- Strago. He just didn't interest me. I don't hate him. He's just my least favourite. FF7- Cait Sith. I still haven't forgiven him for backstabbing my party. And 1997 was almost twelve years ago. Plus he blocks the battle screen, which makes it hard to heal him and other people during battles. FF8- Cid. Guess the same reason for the FF5 Cid. Expect I dislike this Cid much more. What kind of leader puts a young seventeen year old boy in lead of war so he can hide away ? FF9- Steiner. He was a bit terrible to people sometimes. And judgmental. FF10- Lulu. Like Steiner, I thought that she was mean and horrible to people. FF12- Vayne. Just his hair made him look kind of creepy. FF13- Snow." I killed somebody's mother but I'm a amazing hero. " Yeah sure. Quote FFIV: Edward - Couldn't stand him. At all. This isn't surprising, of course, because let's face it: who actually liked him? Me. I love Edward. His bard spells saved me in battle in the DS version countless times. Plus he gets stronger and grows during the game. FF1-FF3 don't have likable/unlikable characters. They're all pretty blank as far as I'm considered.
FF4: Cid or Edward...I'm gonna have to say Edward. I didn't like his whiny personality. FF5: See comment above about 1-3 FF6: Gau FF7: Barret. He was like Cid except extremely unfunny. Cid swore and yelled but at least he was funny and likable, I never liked Barret. FF8: Selphie and Irvine FF9: Quina FF10: Kimahri, jeez, what a dull character as far as personality and battling go. FF10-2: I like all three girls. FF12: ...I liked all of the playable characters, but I guess Fran is my "least favorite", despite not hating her or anything. |

Quote (Glenn Magus Harvey @ 18th November 2010 03:56) I'm surprised people like the angsty Kain but dislike the angsty Terra and Cloud. Or was it because Kain actually got blood on his hands? Same thing with Cecil and Shadow. I don't get it either. I've always liked Kain. My least favorite character has to be Quina. He just came out of nowhere, and unlike every other great character in that game, and unlike all the great secret characters in the other games, he really offers nothing. Another character I didn't like, at first at least, is Cid (VII). Now, I'm picking both of these from games I consider to be the top, because I feel that from the lesser games their main problem is cast of characters. People generally don't like V as much because of what most people call a weaker cast. -------------------- |

FFIV: Edge - I get it, I'm not an idiot. He's supposed to be an arrogant d*ckhole who acts before he thinks. But just because that's how he's intended to be - mission accomplished by the way - doesn't change the fact that's he's an arrogant d*ckhole, especially when the point of creating these kind of characters is so we can witness them change and mature through the events they experience. Not happening here. At the end of the game, he's still a twat.
FFVI: Relm - This truly is my 'least favorite' as I loved all the cast in this game, but as they're all my favorites, she's the least of them. It's like she's the bottom of the barrel, if the barrel is sitting on top of the empire state building. ![]() 1) Nothing really happens to her during the story. She's just...there. 2) Her theme music is some of the most beautiful in the series...if it weren't for that godawful synth bagpipe atrocity! FFVII: Cloud - This was just as hard for the opposite reason. I went with Cloud, mostly because the game focuses on him the most and it's all for nothing. Nothing about this guy is valid or sympathetic. He's an asshole, his 'personal tragedies' ring false, and his character arc is more like the path of a drunken hobo. He sucks...everyone in this game sucks, but he sucks the most. FFVIII: Squall - Refer to previous statement. FFIX: Steiner - Oh man this guy pissed me off. Like Edge, I got that his character was supposed to behave the way he behaved, but that didn't make it any easier to witness this dumbsh*t be a dumbsh*t through the majority of the game. His behavior was well past 'well meaning, but ignorant lunk-head' and drove right off the cliff into 'special needs' valley! I think his helmet was always on to hide the surgery scars. Quote (Narratorway @ 15th November 2010 00:32) FFXIII: Snow - I've never played this game and the entire cast looks like complete ass, so I'm choosing this guy because he has two sexy as hell goddesses he can call upon to have HAWT LEZBO SEX0rZ which turn them into a bike he can ride. ![]() These chicks doing each other is his mode of transportation. I love FF7 and its cast. Aeris, Tifa, Yuffie, Vincent, Cid, Cait Sith...they're all great, it's hard to choose a favorite (besides Barret.) Fanboys are irritating but I don't think I could bring myself to dislike FF7 or its characters because of them.

I know it's pretty much the "cool thing" now to put down FFVII, but come on, the characters were not that bad. Nope the characters of FFVII were solid. On the surface they can seem a bit generic but they do have a lot of quality. Take Barret for instance, he's typically loud and abrasive. However he repents his bombings against Shinra in Cosmo Canyon and has a truly brilliant scene with Dyne. There's a lot to him, yet he doesn't necessarily change, he's still loud but he has a lot of faces. One thing I still can't understand is why people say Cloud is a whiny emo. Squall is withdrawn and cold for basically no reason, a little bit immature in his ways, that's emo. Cloud cares about his team and they care about him. He doesn't show a lot of emotion towards the women who care about him, sure, but he's chasing a man who killed his family and burned his town. It's perfectly understandable that his mind is elsewhere. He takes small jobs to keep him going and he pursues his target without getting tied down, hence the Avalanche job and his desire to leave after the first bombing. If he looked different, had smaller hair and a smaller sword people would like him more I believe. In Advent Children he's terrible. If the anti-Cloud sentiment comes from there then I understand. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

Through the whole game, Cloud does show personality, quite a bit actually. He jokes around, and clearly seems to enjoy certain things. He barely whines, if he does at all. FFIV: Cid. He's always annoyed me.
FFV: Faris. I admit I'm not fond of pirates. FFVI: Terra. I actually surprised myself when I settle on this answer. But that just goes to show how brilliant FFVI is. I realize that some of the characters get almost no development (Umaro, Mog, Gogo), but Terra annoyed me. I seldom enjoy the whole amnesia thing. And her WoR recovery arc didn't capture me in the slightest. So yeah, Terra. FFVII: Cait Sith. No question. Everything about him, from abilities to character development, annoys me. Though, I will say that most of the characters in VII don't merit much enthusiasm to begin with. FFVIII: Squall. He's just blech. FFIX: Quina. Enough said. FFX: Wakka. God, he annoys me. (I've been noticing a pattern here: annoyance figures prominently in 99% of my decisions.) I just want to punch him in the junk every time he starts talking (not to say that he alone bears that distinction, far from it...). Also, I don't care for Blitzball and/or sports equipment as weaponry (not to say that his weaponry is the only type I feel this way about: the series is rife with shoddy weaponry). FFT: I'm tempted to pick no one from this absolute masterpiece, but I'll offer one up: Orlandu because he's just such a bland, goodie-goodie. |

FFI - Thief, if only because s/he's the load of the party until the class change and you get the almighty Ninja.
FFII - Haven't played it enough to make a definite judgment. FFIII - Scholar. Out of the DS characters, all of them, I guess. IMO, there isn't really enough characterization to really get to know any of the characters. Also, even though he's never seen in-game, Noah. Knowledge of magic for Doga, control over the dream world to Unei, and mortality for Xande? Can anyone really blame Xande for turning evil? FFIV - I haven't played it recently enough to really single out one character. Probably Rosa. I feel that her only real purpose in the storyline is to get kidnapped so Cecil can rescue her. FFV - Lenna. Significantly less interesting than any of the other party characters. FFVI - Even though I put him as my favorite character in the other thread, Cyan. The Bushido techniques take WAAAY too long to use for them to be useful. To quote Pitchfork of Socks Make People Sexy, Quote If real samurai were anything like Cyan, it's no wonder they died out. YOU'LL ALL BE SORRY IN FOUR MINUTES WHEN I CHANNEL ENOUGH CHI POWER TO UNLEASH MY LEVEL EIGHT SUPER HYPER OH GOSH I'VE JUST BEEN SHOT FIFTY TIMES IN THE FACE. FFVII - Haven't played it yet, although I'm working on fixing that. FFVIII - I just started, so like FFII, I can't really make any definite judgments, but at this point, I'd have to say Squall (from what I've seen, he's just not very likable. At all.) or Zell (he reminds me of a much less likable version of Beat from TWEWY). This post has been edited by Insegredious on 23rd November 2010 05:15 -------------------- |

There are only two characters in the entire series I don't like:
Squall, for obvious reasons, and Snow because... HE'S A HERO! That's right! Leading thousands of innocent people to their death, saying they were stupid for dying, and indirectly killing an emotionally unstable boy's mother is SO FREAKIN' HEROIC. IT'S NO MYSTERY AS TO WHAT THE HIGHLY INTELLIGENT SERAH FARRON SEES IN YOU. AFTER ALL, YOU ARE A FANTASTIC PERSON, SNOW VILLIERS. ...The worst part is that his motorcycle is made up of two lesbian goddeses doing each other. He literally RIDES two hot women at the SAME TIME during battle. Hope Serah doesn't find out... -------------------- "When we think there's no hope left, we keep looking until we find some!" - Claire Farron |

I'm almost done with Disc 1 on FFVIII, but for me, it's EVERYONE except Quistis.

Quote (Insegredious @ 5th January 2011 02:03) EVERYONE except Quistis. Okay, you know what? Scratch that. Feeling guilty for unfairly flipping out on Rinoa? Fine. Wanting to go apologize? Great. Leaving your post in the middle of an assassination attempt to go do so!? Are you kidding me!? And Zell and Selphie following her back to the mansion despite her orders to stay and complete the mission? Seriously? -------------------- |
