What are some of the toughest storyline boss (es) you've just had to reset over and over for in a game? This can include the Final Boss, but not optional 'mega-bosses'. And speak from the first time you completed the game. (Because we all know it usually is easier the more times you play the game.
Violetta in Grandia III was horrible. ><; Needs not mentioning, but oh well: Decus and Vesper in Star Ocean 2. If I hear Spicule one more time... Gabriel/Indalecio wasn't that much easier. Likewise, Belial and Beelzebub in Star Ocean 3 were very irritating. Zeromus in Final Fantasy IV was very tedious. That's all I can think of for now. =3 -------------------- |

The Dark Disciple from Ninja Gaiden Black, on my first playthrough Normal mode. I had no potions of any sort, and I was only at full health and ki from the change in chapters. This means I had to be practically flawless in memorizing his forms of attack (no patterns thanks to sophisticated AI) and executing my techniques (many of which he is invincible to).

Zeromus was tough with his big bang but i found that was the main tough part since he used it often...and Edge kept on dieing.
Evil Wall or well i forget his name on FF7/VII he was quite the doozy, and he still is FF5 Adamantoise for the first time,i got to the point i couldn't fly or something like that or exit but i do know i restarted my game because of him. Lavos on Chrono Trigger, the final form of the shell was so so but Possible spoilers: highlight to view the big one with teeth could dish out nice dmg. But the final form was the worst *for me* he would just pwn me and since i didn't know the trick to beating him right away...... -------------------- Kel'Thuzad: She is persistent. First of all, Fire Leo in Viewtiful Joe wins. In the harder difficulties I simply cannot survive against him. Other bosses that come to mind are Nightmare 3 in Devil May Cry, almost every boss in Devil May Cry 3 (especially Geryon, at least for me), final Sigma from Mega Man X5, the Rock Monster / Yellow Devil from the original Mega Man (without using the pause/unpause glitch), Death from the original Castlevania, Dracula from Castlevania: Dracula X, and probably several others that I'm forgetting.
And might I remind you: there is no such thing as a difficult RPG, and as a corollary there is no such thing as a difficult RPG boss. QED. -------------------- |

FF4's Evil Wall really pissed me off.
In Chrono Trigger, I actually had trouble against the dinosaur boss in the base inside the forest maze. That was because of the lightning he would send back at us after Crono zapped him. -------------------- |

FFIV's Evil Wall is quite frustrating (especially if you haven't levelled up .enough)

Not counting not-too-well-designed-difficulty NES games (coughCastlevaniacoughGhostsnGoblinscough), the one truly very tough boss I currently remember dealing with is Hume from the freeware game Eternal Daughter.
Edit Oh wait, I forgot unreasonable bosses. Let's add a few: Yellow Devil (Mega Man 1) Yellow Devil (Mega Man 3) Angel X (Mega Man Zero) Dracula (Castlevania Dracula XX: Vampire's Kiss (SNES)) This post has been edited by Glenn Magus Harvey on 13th July 2006 16:26 -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Oh! And I forgot that Turtle-robot boss near the end of Rockman II. I could never complete that game.
And yeah, that's probably true, but I can't count how many times I heard 'OHH IT'S HOT! OH HOHOHOHO! SPICULE!' Edit: "AREN'T YOU COLD?!' This post has been edited by Zeromus_X on 27th June 2006 01:00 -------------------- |

You said from the first time you played the game it's easier. Not in my case.
FFV Atomos - Comet, comet, comet.... need I say more? Sealed Creatures - I just couldn't defeat them on my third play through the game - it took me five whole hours and after it I really didn't want to see Possible spoilers: highlight to view anyway!Galuf die FFIV This is the hardest Final Fantasy IMO so it's obvious why I put the whole game here! -------------------- -Xig Xag |

Kain in FFIV, because he's meant to be unbeatable in a "plot-battle". Then I beat him. Bloody hard but I've overcome the frustration of being beaten by him every time.
And then there's Beatrix in FFIX. It's so lame that you lose every time you fight her. It's not like some games where you can power up your characters and beat these stupid over-hard bosses. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. My first playthrough of FFT, I had to reset multiple times against Weigraf/Velius (the first battle in Ch.1 and the Riovannes Castle battle), the battles against Gafgarion in both the Golgorand Execution Site and Lionel Castle, and against Marquis Elmdor, Celia, and Lede.

Quote (laszlow @ 26th June 2006 07:25) And might I remind you: there is no such thing as a difficult RPG, and as a corollary there is no such thing as a difficult RPG boss. QED. I don't know what you're basing this on, but in Baldur's Gate, there's a rather low experience cap and in Baldur's Gate 2, at some point, leveling up becomes less and less effective to the point that it becomes next to pointless, at least for certain classes. It doesn't help that the death of the main PC (only one or two attacks away, in some cases) is all it takes to end the game. For those reasons, some later bosses are still rather frustrating for me. Like Sendai, whose constant teleporting and other spellcasting SEVERELY drew out the battle, in which groups of other enemies periodically jump in and drain away your limited resources, as well. There are a couple others in the same game who tried my patience thanks to their cheesier abilities, but I haven't played that part of the game in a long time, so I don't quite remember the particulars of those anymore. Some very annoying people to fight!
Starocean 3: The Crystal Statues and the Crystal Chimera: pain in the butt at low levels! Starocean 2: The boss in the "temple" of power: Always killed me with his stone fists Final Fantasy "2": The Zeromus in this version was actually harder than the one in 4, but thats because i have beenm playing that version more! Chrono Trigger: Even though not really defeatable, Spekkio was a pain in the butt to even try to fight! Final Fantasy IX: The whole trio of Garland, Silver Dragon, and Kuja was a horrible experience which even now i cannot defeat, and i have reached the levels in the 60's! Lasz, I agree 100% with you on Yellow Devil in the original Mega Man. Hardest boss to date. I beat him once using the pause/unpause glitch and that was enough for me. Used the glitch every other time. He was freakin insane.
I remember Spikey the tiger in SoM being extremely tough when you fight him simply because he's at a tough point in the game. No magic, 8 item cap for healing items (4 candy and 4 choco), and only a few powerful weapons made him really hard. Lack of Undine was the most killer loss, though. And the fact that he was crazy fast. Luckily, in my most recent playthroughs, my uncanny bowmanship took him down long before he killed my main character, but he still gives me nightmares from back in the day. I remember the two vampires at the end of Mu in Illusion of Gaia being tough, too. I haven't played the game in awhile, but I remember being incredibly frustrated when fighting them. Wasn't there a time limit for that battle, too? Gah. How evil. That's all that comes to mind as of right now. I know there are a few bosses from RPGs that I'm forgetting, but I can't remember at the moment. -------------------- Is PJ |

Same here during my first playthruogh, a frustrating part was the military base, after beating two consecutive tanks and a helicopter, i was out of potions and rebirths, got to the part where you have to shoot across to the tower, and got killed by a machine gun. Quote Kain in FFIV, because he's meant to be unbeatable in a "plot-battle". Then I beat him. Bloody hard but I've overcome the frustration of being beaten by him every time. Played for four hours straight against him before i beat him, and it was by luck. i remember my fingers being sweaty and numb. When I finally beat him was after I wiped my hands. after I beat him I took a break and had a PB&J, I miss being seven. Devil May Cry 3. there's a point where you run into two guardians. i forget the specific deatisl, but killing one took almopst all of my health, then when one of them dies, the other takes his sword and now he's twice as fast. i STILL haven't beat him. cerberus gave me a good run for my money, too. but them 3-sided nunchuks were worth it.

Quote By the way what's the "puse/unpause glitch"? it's where you damage the boss, and then keep unpausing and pausing, and he keeps on taking damage. Something like that. |

it works best with Elecman's power, i believe. everytime you pause then unpause, it causes the attack to hit them again.

I don't know about anyone else, but I found Evrae from FFX freakin' impossible in my first run. That one took forever, between the leveling up, timing the airship attacks correctly, and, well, I also found that there was a certain degree of luck needed in getting through it.
In hindsight, I found a lot of the same problems with some of the later members of Organization XIII, especially Final Xemnas. Dear God. -------------------- You are not your username. Isn't Ozma one of the optional bosses, though?
Well, who cares? I know your pain, believe you me. The battle alone was hard enough, but even to properly fight him is a crucible of a task. First off, I agree with Dragon King. FF VII's Demon Gate was and is a pain, and takes third for the title. Coming in second is every incarnation of Ursula in Kingdom Hearts, and first goes uncontested to Riku IV in KH:CoM, along with his twin underground. At least in Sora's story you can build your own deck...

ursulas not that hard if you just level up a bit, have potions, and are good at using mermaid kick.
as for riku....omnislah. sleight three clouds. have 4 tinks to sleight and just to use, and heve 9 and 0 cards, even kingdom keys work. just make sure you have three fire, cure, and blizzard cards, curaga, blizzaga, firaga works wonders -------------------- Aujourdhui a commence avec toi. |
