Seriously, I didn't think twice about it until I read about it online.

What do you mean? That it's made out of belts?

I always noticed that, and I laughed. It was during Nomura's "belts, zippers, and chains" phase, and I just was amused that he made her entire skirt out of belts. Plus, her evasion is somehow high.

Quote (R8.50 Mango @ 23rd October 2010 17:17) I also didn't notice. I was distracted by...other things... I dunno, I'd say any part of Lulu is equally distracting, especially since you can see a little leg through those belts...though X and VIII are far from my favourites in the series, between Lulu and Quistis I admit they have the most attractive women... -------------------- "If art doesn't risk upsetting expectations and challenging its audience, it can only stagnate." |

I've actually heard that Nomura designed this explicitly to troll the character animators.

That actually sounds like the kind of thing I'd do if the animators ticked me off enough.

Quote I've actually heard that Nomura designed this explicitly to troll the character animators. He does that. He's stated that in VIII he specifically added the feathered collar on Squall to challenge them. Quote What do you mean phase? I mean there was a period of time when Nomura used lots and lots of belts, zippers, and chains in his character designs. You don't see them in VII, but you start to in VIII with Squall and to a lesser extent Zell. In X it's in full swing with Lulu, and if you look at Kingdom Hearts, it's there too. |

Quote I mean there was a period of time when Nomura used lots and lots of belts, zippers, and chains in his character designs. I remember to read the term "Zippermaster" somewhere, as a nickname to Nomura. All those belts, that reminds me of Digimon. Some of them had belts all over the body... I wonder if Nomura helped designing Digimon? -------------------- Live Long and Prosper! |

I think Lasz is saying that Nomura hasn't exited that 'phase' yet. And that he didn't have any other phases before it. -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! Yeah, I was going to mention this too, since fur was and apparently still is a pain for animators to work with and make it look good. But notice also that Lulu has a fur collar. I'm sure not many males will have missed it, given where it is. Hell, they might have even missed the belt skirt just because of the fur collar... In FF7, his belts and zippers may have been toned down by A) graphical Limitations and What is most unfortunate is that whoever the poor sod who does the designs now is, everyone still thinks it's Nomura. But yeah, apparently he comes up with his most moronic designs just to annoy the animators. A noble goal, but a most morally questionable act just to troll. Most despicable, sir, most despicable. But it's also apparently a Japanese cultural thing, which doesn't surprise me as it's a bit stupid, and I'm struggling to find anything in Japanese culture since the turn of the century that cannot at some point be fairly described as ultimately a bit stupid. Yoshida did XII as well, didn't he?
Either way, it now varies from game to game, since Squenix is using the "multiple teams" thing. |

XII was originally started with a team similar to FF Tactics: Yoshida, Matsuno, and Sakimoto. Matsuno went crazy and quit, but I think that was the start of Yoshida working with the main series. EDIT: And...yeesh this is getting off topic. Anyway, I always kind of liked Lulu, and not just because she was good-looking. She and Auron are probably the characters in the game that bothered me the least...though I am partial to tough women, I s'pose.
