How about we change this thread up a little?
What do you think is the best game from each generation? Like the Nintendo era, PS1 era, and (I usually combine these) the PS2/PS3 era. *For Nintendo, it's definitely FFVI with IV really close behind. They're both great games. They both have unique and memorable characters. They both have good villains. They both have good stories. Both have good music. I think VI wins though, because for one, it felt like a longer game. It also had an overall better battle system. The music was better. The story is that much better. Each character in VI was given a good backstory, something IV kind of lacked. And the whole final confrontation/battle with Kefka was more epic than IV's final battle. IV did have a better final dungeon though. I'll give it that. Oh, and there's IV: The After Years that I guess would be considered a part of the Nintendo era, since it's 2D and is on a Nintendo system. This game is great too. I put it SLIGHTLY behind IV, but the whole final dungeon of The After Years is the best of any FF game I've played, mostly due the strange, eerie music, background and most of all, all the memorable bosses you fight throughout the area. Epic. *For PS1, we already went over it. FFIX. *For PS2/3, I'm gonna say FFXII. I never have played X or X-2, though, so I can't really say for those two. But I thought XII was miles better than XIII. XIII was just...well...it didn't feel like a Final Fantasy game. As for XI, I don't consider the online ones as a part of the series. Moderator Edit It's perfectly okay to start a new thread. Nobody should click on a thread discussing Final Fantasy VII vs. Final Fantasy IX and expect to talk about what you're wanting to talk about in this post. Therefore, I'm splitting this to a new thread. -R51 This post has been edited by Rangers51 on 29th October 2010 12:15 -------------------- |

NES: III. The job system is epic. The story, while nothing special, is better than I, and everything else in the game is better than II.
SNES: VI. Still my favourite game. The standard of RPGs in terms of gameplay and story which has yet to be surpassed. PS1: IX. It didn't bring anything new to the table as far as innovation goes, but it has a great story and is oozing oldschool charm. Poor pacing, but VII and VIII suffer the same problems, it just a PS1 thing I suppose. PS2: X. Ehh...I used to really dislike it. Played it a couple times since, and the story's actually not too bad, and surprisingly dark (interesting that X and Chrono Cross, both games that take place in sunny tropical island settings, have some of the most desolate plots in RPGs). I dislike nearly all of the characters, but the game itself is pretty fun, and I'm ashamed to admit I kinda like Blitzball. PS3: N/A. Only one game so far, and it's no good. Of the NES era, I'd have to say the original one because of the amazing ground it broke. Sure, II and III improved on the graphics and changed up the gameplay, but the original really holds a special place in gaming history.
SNES era is a little tougher for me. While IV introduced a strong storyline with individual characters to the game, I really feel like VI was the best of that era. The gameplay was solid, the cast and plot were large and memorable, and it truly pushed the limits of the SNES's capabilities. In the PS(one) era, IX is easily the most polished of the three, and its numerous homages to the rest of the series make it stand out for me. That said, the gameplay of VIII was better in my opinion. In the PS2 era, I lean rather heavily towards XII. Again, gameplay was revolutionary and while several of the characters weren't that great, the story was awesome. |

NES - III
III was just the most polished and i loved the job system. SNES - IV I didnt like Vs story and ive grown to really dislike VI's characters and story, so IV it is but not by much. looking back i can safely say im not a huge fan of the SNES games. PS1 - VIII or IX depending on which i played last VIII was my first rpg, and the first game i really played a lot, so it has a special place in my heart, IX was the first game to make me feel emotion of any kind, so im torn. PS2 - XII Didnt like X/X-2 at all, XI was alright, but XII was just superb. and ps3 is a given, but XIII This post has been edited by dont chocobos rule? on 30th October 2010 00:20 -------------------- Aujourdhui a commence avec toi. |

In my opinion:
1:nes era 6 with 4 second on snes 9 on psx I actually really liked the first final fantasy on the nes because even though there wasn't much story, there was mistery to exploring the world and it felt like i really was on an adventure. -------------------- We are stardust. Our bodies are made from the guts of exploding stars. NES: III.
SNES: VI PS: IX PS2: X PS3: XIII. Because I enjoyed it! EDIT: Now that I think about it, Del's ideas sound GREAT. I'd finally have a way to make my friends stop pestering me to try games I don't wanna buy. NES: FF3.
SNES: FF5 or FF6. Those are the only two generations I am familiar with. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. NES: FF III
SNES: FF VI PS1: FF VII PS2: FF X IX has a lot going for it, but I still feel its storyline doesn't live up to VII's and that by the endgame many of its characters are afterthoughts. There's a reason FF VII has so many obnoxious fans - there's an excellent game in there underneath so many years of Square-Enix cheapening the franchise with its Compilation thereof. -------------------- |

NES. FF I . It's the game that started everything. It had good music and a decent storyline for it's time. II had a confusing battle system, and III is so extremely difficult it can lead to 'Rage Quitting.'
SNES: FF VI. It has a beautiful storyline and romance between Locke/ Celes. Well orchestrated music, and somehow Square managed to put in 13 characters without clogging up or making the storyline look messy. Genius. V is good but I'm just amazed by how well Square managed to pull off VI. And IV is fantastic till the sacrifices actually turn out to be all in vain. Minus poor Tellah. PS1: Can I say FF IX ?? PS2 FF XII. FF X has terrible characters so it has be FF XII. FF XII also has a huge improvement on VA's and Vanye is a much better villian than Seymour. He was more calculating and cunning. FF X- 2, really is just a party game. PS3: Hopefully FF XV. This post has been edited by ZidaneTribal on 1st November 2010 06:06 -------------------- Currently playing Chrono Trigger !! NES would be FF1.
SNES would be FF4 or FF6. PSX would be FF9 surely. PS2 would be FFX. And PS3 I suppose has to be FFXIII, but soon enough FF Versus XIII even so. All my own opinion, I should add. |
